"A fun, unique baseball game"

This happens at least four times every season. A player gets hit with the baseball, he charges the mound, and before you know it a fight breaks out. While great fans should not hope for this event to occur, it does give us some free and fun entertainment. With that being said, Slugfest comes as close as can be to cartoon violence in baseball!

Graphics 9/10- Well, everything looks as it should. The players look like players, the uniforms uniforms and so forth. The best way to put the graphics in slugfest are "cartoon" style. But for casual video gamers, think Blitz.

Gameplay- 8/10- The game itself does not have many options as a baseball game should. We have quickplay, which is self explanatory, and franchise. Franchise is not like you would imagine a franchise mode to be. You can set up the amount of games that you wish to play and then you play the games. When the games are done, you (hopefully) go on to the playoffs, If not the franchise is over. Once you win the world series, the game is pretty much over. Kind of disappointing if you ask me.

Playing the game, without a doubt, is fun. The object is the same as a regular baseball game- score more runs than the other team. An added objective, however, is to "knock out" the opposing teams best players. For example, If Derrek Jeter has a speed value of 10, Throwing a pitch at his legs could lower it down to six. Or, It could do the opposite. You see, Throwing a pitch at a batter has two consequences. The first is the batters' stats are lowered. The second, the batter is "on fire." What on fire means is this, the player becomes a super human baseball player, and until you get him out he can knock the ball out of your hands and make unbelievable plays. Believe me, This is fun.

Sound- 9/10- The commentary by Vin scully is pretty decent. If you like to hear about something other than the topic of baseball while you are playing you will enjoy the commentary. If not, Well than I guess you can always put on the radio. Oh, and there is one licenced song here but it is not anything popular.

Rent or buy?- I would say buy, Especially if you are a fan of regular baseball games. Slugfest provides a unique style of violence that a few teenagers will love to see, but I would not give the game to a nine year old.. It could and probably will put some bad ideas in his head.
