Gun
Review by a_heavenly_body
"Who wants to quickdraw......"
Welcome to the Wild Wild West in late nineteenth century as shown in this game. Gun is a GTA type free-roaming game in pretty much every aspect except it lacks the brilliance of the GTA games and it's set in the 1870's.
Story:
7/10
Gun features an engaging yet somewhat hurried story-line. You are Colton, you father ends up dead on what was supposed to be a routine day. Not only that but before dieing, he tells you that he is not your father and gives you a token leading to a contact in Dodge city. This begins your journey looking for revenge as well as answers while swaying on both sides of the law. The reason the story seems hurried is because of the way the action changes, at one moment you are on the good side of the law, you are deputy and in the next mission you are an outlaw with a price on his head. At one moment you are slaughtering the apaches and the next moment you are taking refuge in their camp. Everybody likes twists and turns but the speed at which this story went leaves a somewhat empty feeling. There should have been more story where you are the good guy and discover things while you are on the good side, rather then getting all information from the bad guys etc. Besides, the story is too short.
Game-Play:
7.5/10
While the core game-play is good, the side-missions seem hurried into the game-play. This is game based on the west, and like every game based on the west, this one has plenty of shooting action. There is a decent variety of weapons in this game including revolvers, shotguns, rifles, sharpshooter's etc. None of the weapons are instant killers which make the game too easy, which is a good sign although having infinite ammo for your revolvers at all times seems out of place. You can not only upgrade your weapons but also your other stats. Upgrades require money and money is a little tough to earn, which is also a good sign as the upgrades seem much more rewarding. Then there is the standard slow motion time called quick-draw mode, which is present in pretty much every shooter these days. It slows down everyone while you still have your normal reflexes. There is also plenty of horse riding and mind you, it's a lot of fun. The horses are only means of transport in this game and they don't disappoint, although i am somewhat surprised how easily they are injured if you jump from a little bit high ledge. There are side-missions to earn you money/stats and keep you busy in-between the mission but like every game that tries to copy GTA, they end short on the fun part and in the end are too few for a game of this magnitude.
Audio:
8/10
Overall, the game has decent audio effects. The sound effects of a gun firing, a horse, blasts etc are all great. The voice acting is superb, especially that of the main character. In-fact, the main character's voice is one the main reasons that make his character a lot more interesting. Other members also have great voices as well.
Graphics:
7.5/10
The game has decent graphics. Don't expect any jaw dropping presentation of the west, it's standard and it's good. The animations are all most perfect and the frame-rate is pretty stable as well.
Overall:
7.5/10
This game should definitely be on your buy lists if you like west based shooter games. You should also give it a shot if you are a GTA fan. Other then that, it's worth a rent.
