Lego Star Wars
Review by chickmcjr
"Haha. I made a flower EXPLODE."
Whew. Who would have thought that this game could turn out so good? I mean, Lego and Star Wars separately are pretty popular but putting them together made one of the best things ever.
Story 6/10
The story is based on the Star Wars movies 1-3 with 'episodes' for each major portion of the game. The level starts in typical Star Wars fashion with the words slowly scrolling upwards on the screen explaining the situation. There's no talking in this game so all the character's body language had to be top notch in order to get across what they meant. Fortunately it was done well and was easy to understand.
Graphics 10/10
AW!!! Everything in this game is so cute! The designers have done an excellent job at converting Star Wars characters into Lego form. R2-D2 and C3PO look so cute! Even though everything in the game is done in an adorable fashion it still manages to keep the seriousness from the movies. The climatic duels are almost as intense as the movie.
Music and Sound 10/10
A lot of the music from Star Wars has been carried over to this game along with the blaster and lightsaber noises. It's really awesome playing through a game like this listening to the Star Wars songs.
Gameplay 9/10
You start in Dexter's Diner. From here you can buy new characters using Studs you've collected, fight random people outside or play through the game. Just walk through the door for the level you want and off you go!
The most noticeable thing worth mentioning is the drop-in drop-out system. Basically, if a friend comes over to play and you happen to be playing this game they can pick up the controller, hit the Start button, and will instantly join the game without interrupting the flow of the game at all. And when they need to go home? Just hit Start, select drop-out and you can keep playing like nothing happened. A really good system that I believe fits in perfectly with this game.
Each level is incredibly easy. You just need to flick switches, run through doors and beat bosses to finish. That is why it only scored a 9. But I believe it to be a good difficulty setting because you don't play this game to do hard puzzles or wander around for hours. You do it to simply enjoy the game with a friend and watch Lego Star Wars character explode into Lego when defeated.
Since everything is made out of Lego you can expect that there are many secrets buried within this game. You can manipulate the world you're playing in by making flowers explode, building a pathway, setting up alternate routes...The list goes on and on. Also there are Canisters hidden throughout each level which contain a part of a space ship from Star Wars. And if you collect them all in that level it build the space ship and it is added to a garage outside Dexter's Diner.
Also if you collect enough studs in a level (studs are like currency) then you get a special piece for a space ship. Collect every space ship and who knows what might occur?
Play Time/Replayability 10/10
This game will keep you amused just trying to find all of the secrets on your first play through of the game. But there's so much to find here that you will not be able to find it all in one sitting. Everything is hidden well and a lot of careful design has gone into this game to make sure that it keeps the gamer amused for a long time. High marks here.
Final Recommendation
Definitely buy this game. It's a decision you won't regret. It's a good game that, even when you're finished playing through it, you can still pull it out and give it a run through with a friend due to it's easy pick up and play nature.
