Super Dragon Ball Z

Review by Mikailin

"Not so super dbz"

To my knowledge, super dbz was originally an arcade game. Then it was ported to the ps2. It should've stayed where it belonged, in the arcades.

Graphics: The graphics are too childish looking. I do like how the character models look, but the background graphics are just so out of place. It seems rather silly seeing those big words flashing on the screen. The beams and ki blasts dont look good at all. Though the super saiyin transformations do look pretty nice.

Controls: Controls are easy to get use to, which is a good thing. They're layered out pretty well, and it is easy to catch on to the concept of the game's layout.

Gameplay: This is where the game dies. The gameplay is just not good. Even if your expectations of the game was not high in the first place, you'd still be somewhat disappointed. It just feels like they threw this game together. The fighting is bad. For one thing, you can't really do a lot to your oponent. As in, you're pretty much doing the same thing over and over, and seeing as the moves are very limited, it gets old really quick. Normally you're going to do the same thing over and over to people in fighting games, but this game really doesn't offer much to appreciate the repetitiveness. You're basically doing plain punches and kicks when it comes to trying to do some combos. The only way to get a good combo rating is to chain together the same old moves over and over. It's pretty easy to execute the moves, which is a good thing. The bad thing is, there are not enough moves. If you're looking for a nice even fight, this isn't the game for that. It's either too easy to win or too hard to win, rarely an even fun fight. Basically, even if you did master this game, it pretty much comes down to who can land the cheapest repetitive blows and shots the most. There are a few nice looking manuvers, such as the way the characters dash at each other using the game's high speed and attack quickly. There aren't enough modes at all. There's your story mode, training mode, vs mode and Z mode, where you can build up your character's stats. Even that gets old quick due to the lack of variety and depth.

Overall: Like every game, this one has its ups and downs, but this game has way too many downs to appreciate it. For a dbz game, it is way too limited. I suggest only renting this game. It's nice to try something new with dbz, but this is a bad way of presenting new ideas.
