Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Review by bloo_bullet
"*Yawn*..."
"Sly 2: Band of Thieves" is the highly anticipated sequel of one of my personal favorite games on the PS2. Too bad it sucked...
My only question is why is it so boring? Everything you do in one place you do just about everywhere else. "Oh yeah, repetition is so much fun! Who doesn't like doing the same stuff over and over again!?"...
Graphics: 8
I don't normally care much about graphics, considering that their only purpose is to help sell the game, but I guess I should review it anyway...
It's not all that different from the first one, though it is a bit more stylish. The only thing that I noticed is that Sly looks... uglier than in the first on. But overall it's the same...
My only real beef with the graphics is that all of the levels both look and act the same. What happened to the idea of the levels having completely different themes? Like Muggshot's casino with all those cool dogs wearing even cooler suits? Or the karate themed monkeys and buildings all working under the Panda King?...
Sound: 7
It was okay, I guess. The music is what you would expect. And the voice-acting is basically the same. The only thing that got on my nerves was "The Murray" always calling himself "The Murray". Talk about annoying...
Gameplay: 4
Ah, yes, the most important factor in any game. Why did I rate it so low? Well, to be honest, it's just... boring. And what happened to all those cool moves from the first one I worked so hard to get!? Sure, you can buy new moves, but they just aren't as cool or helpful as the old ones...
And lets not forget about the feature to play as Bentley, the super-smart turtle, or Murray, the pink hippo who usually drives the, uh, van, and is now some, sort of, super hero... Well, I guess pink hippo's are in high demand these days...
But lets get to the point. Bentley has a crossbow and some gadgets, though none of them are really interesting enough for me to remember... And Murray, who is obviously the muscle, with his wide range of belly flops and wrestling moves...
Replayabilty: 0
Are you kidding!? I didn't even finish it! Though I did play it for a pretty long time trying to force myself to like it. But then I asked myself "Why am I trying to force myself to have fun? Shouldn't the game naturally be fun?"...
Rent or Buy?: Rent
Rent! Always try it before you buy it. Nothing feels worse than coming home with an empty wallet and a crappy game...
Final Notes:
You know, it's games like this that have taught me a very important lesson... Never get your hopes up for a video game! Especially a sequel! Your hopes will always, more or less, be crushed...
Final Judgement: 6/10
