Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
Review by DiabloSV
"Best. Racing. Game . Ever."
Now, there's NFS: MW. Good graphics, good AI, good sounds. Then, there's Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix. A visceral explosion of neon drenched cities, brilliant weather effects, and, of course, a smattering of outright cool.
==GRAPHICS: 10/10==
Let's face it, Rockstar doesn't have a very good reputation when it comes to Graphics. But, then again, they've really outdone themselves with this. Car reflections are spot on, the cities look exactly as they do in real life, and the lighting effects are absoultely spectacular. A brilliant example would be staring a brand new Mercedes and rotating the view. The garage lights bounce off the windscreen and side mirrors perfectly. A masterpiece.
==GAMEPLAY: 10/10==
Rockstar may not have the best graphics, but it's Gameplay has been perfect for years. Thankfully, the trend has been carried over to MC3:REMIX, seeing as the classing racing controls have been carried over, too. X is accelerate, Square is brake/reverse, and R1 is handbrake. Rockstar's spin on Street Racing continues here as well, with R2 Nitrous and L3 special moves. There's Zone (slows down time, giving you incredible control), Agro (Makes your car extremely heavy so you can destroy traffic), and Roar (Gives out an engine rev so loud that everyone veers off to their side). Drifting and other tricks are easy, too. Free and flowing Gameplay - What anyone would want.
==SOUND: 10/10==
Once again, a 10. The Muscle Car Engines rev with mighty V8 roars, the tuners sound like a rice burner you'd encounter ripping past you on the freeway, the Sport Bikes sound like broken hairdryers, etc. Crashing into things would give you the exact sound you'd hear if you really crashed - But you really don't want to hear the sickening scrape of steel on concrete - It hurts.
==AI: 9/10==
AH! A 9! Of course, the AI isn't the best, but then again, is that such a bad thing? No, in fact, it would help if it wasn't as good as it is. Why, you ask? Because ALL THE FREAKIN TIME, THEY KNOW THE COURSE OFF BY HEART! In Atlanta, you will encounter a race which is only possible to win if you use Zone every second corner to get a faster take-off, seeing as the AI go so much faster. Nice try, but not quite.
==LIFESPAN: 10/10==
San Diego? Atlanta? Detroit? Tokyo? That's a lot of racing for your dollar there, boy. Oh yeah - the price. How does $30 AUD sound? (Around $20 USD) Not bad - there are bigger games to be had. GTA: San Andreas, anyone? This is a BIG racing game, with even BIGGER jumps and even BETTER cars, so what would make it better? More music, more cars and revised menus. Wait, that was already done with Remix!
==OVERALL: 10/10==
The perfect Racing Game - Destined to be imitated in years to come.
