Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA
Review by DjMelonz
"Is this game really SUPER for NOVA?"
Well, I've been playing this game for quite a while, and for so far its a pretty decent game actually. I can see how konami made a comeback for the return of another DDR game. They've tried to improvise the songlist, but I guess a lot of people haven't really accepted the songlist as a WOW factor. I know konami has been working hard to improve DDR to make it become a better interactive game for gamers all over the world but I don't think their making that much of an effort to make the game more playable. Maybe because of the fiasco of the long and tiring Dance Master Mode. I personally don't like DM mode and I would rather play songs to earn the unlockables just like EX, MAX2, and MAX. Hopefully konami will work really hard on this.
Graphics : 9
The graphics gets a 9 because it looks clean and fresh, and its not as bad as it was from EX2. Well their both equally great on graphics but this one deserves the one that beats EX2 from graphics. Well its sort of like a space type of background in the game but at times it doesn't feel like I'm playing DDR in space. It just feels like the graphics are like moving circles and abstract to it. What also bugs me about the graphics is when I go play a boss song in training mode in expert, and then when I change the song, the shape of the CHAOS, VOLTAGE, STREAM, (you know what I'm talking about) stays as the same shape in the next song. And when I choose a song in Game Mode, the moving circles tend to lag a bit. But those are some minor mistakes in the graphics, so there's nothing to worry about.
Gameplay: 8
The gameplay is decent as usual, Game Mode is the same, Edit is the same, but what bugs me about the gameplay is the obvious Stellar Master Mode. Its just a pain in the butt. Just playing it and collecting the VIP cards and doing all of these tasks, it gets boring and then my feet gets sore and cramps would get to me and stuff. But that's only my prerogative. But still, just doing all these tasks would be tiring and boring. But one thing that I really liked about Stellar was that we can play system songs on the VIP cards. I was really surprised that they actually put system songs to play, so that would be a plus for Stellar. The shop is still a unique idea. When I go to the shop, I just get whatever is new and then it will be sold out. Hurray! I'm pretty glad that the characters are pretty much cheaper than last years rip-off to those characters that gets newly dressed. 100000 or more a piece, give me a break. Now that its 2000 and higher, I don't really need to worry about my points now, which is a good thing. Well overall there were a lot of things in the shop that were chopped down to a cheaper price. Sweet deal isn't it. For example, murmur twins for 3,000 points now that's a sweet deal. There were also a lot of arrow options and one arrow that I was interested in was the super tiny arrow. Whoever is lucky to have a clear super vision, then you must be lucky to complete the showdown for Pizza Box. Pizza Box is fairly impossible for me. One example, AAA on all red songs? You gotta be kidding me. But at least I can do one thing. AAA rainbow rainbow, yes! Oh yes I forgot to mention, where's the information mode? This should be very disappointing to all of us. Ok next to the Sound.
Sound : 10
The sound in this game sounds perfect enough for everyone to hear. Sure the oldies are a bit less sound-able but who cares those were the 80's! But what's so weird about it is that you can hear Shout perfectly, which is like the oldest song in the game and you can't hear a clear beat to Let's Dance or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and those songs are younger to Shout. Well its probably the same just like Rock Lobster from Ultramix 3 an Kids In America from Extreme. Still, the sound is spot on!
Songlist: 9
The songlist in this game was almost perfect. It was so close but some of the songs in this game were fairly pleasant and not that exciting to hear. Monkey Punk, Midnight Special, Come Clean, Since You Been Gone, those kind of songs minuses it out. Punk and Pop and songs are not my types of music. Do we really need these kind of songs in this game? It should've had those other awesome licences from the arcades like SURRENDER (Your Love), What A Wonderful World and Wookie Wookie. I would give the licensed songs a 7 because some of the songs were pretty upbeat and catchy. For example, L.E.F by Ferry Corsten, The Other Side from Paul van Dyk, and Turn on The Music by Roger Sanchez. Now the new songs to DDR were pretty good as well. In my opinion, these new songs sounds way better than EX 2's Ko repeats. Some of the good songs in all New Konami Originals and others would be Flow, Happy Angel, Love Is Dreaminess, and Rainbow Rainbow. Most of the songs were spot on, and then comes the ruiners. Like I said before Midnight Special, Monkey Punk, Put Your Faith In Me, and Brazilian Anthem ruins the songlist. But overall the new songs for me would still be a 9 because most of the songs are marvellous. There are only a few that ruins it, and that's okay. On the other hand I'm extremely disappointed that the Online Songs are not in the Offline game. I've heard these songs from Zenius and they sound really cool. Trim and Feelings Won't Fade are great songs. I have never heard the new one from U1 w/ Leah but hopefully it will be in the next DDR game, along with the others (Nijiro, Honey Punch, FWF, and Trim). DDR Supernova 2 people?
If you think EX2 is better than this, think again. This one is surely the best DDR game for PS2 so far. Many of you will disagree with me but I am really serious about this. This is, so far, the best DDR game for the console PS2. So people, if you are huge hardcore fans of DDR, I suggest you that you should quickly get this game ASAP. And for the beginners, I'd suggest you to take DDR Extreme because a lot of people had said that it is the easiest DDR game out there. Or EX2, well it's your decision.
Overall, DDR SuperNOVA gets a 9 for me. Its great, it's worth playing, and it will surely be one of the best, of them all.
