Bionicle
Review by Dante_Meta
"Yeah... Sorry, but no."
I'll just start out by saying I found this game going through my brother's collection while I was looking for something else to Review. I checked here and saw that it didn't have many Reviews, so I figured, why not? Yeah What a mistake that was. I'll say it now, and I'll say it later for those who don't read these introductions. If you're a Bionicle (Hey, I had a childhood too, y'know) fan; stay away from this game.
I'll start out with the Graphics, like always. For a game that came out in 2003 These are pretty bad. I've seen games that came out 2-3 years prior, with better graphics. The character models are choppy and jagged, and nothing really stands out. The backgrounds and scenery are pretty bland, also. Nothing overly spectacular in this department, I did like, however, some of the various Effects of the game.
The sound of the game, also nothing spectacular, the people at Electronic Arts must've been happy, as there's no need for synchronizing the voices. They wear masks, you don't see their mouths, if they have any, move. Well, some do, but even then, it's not synchronized in the slightest bit. Not to mention, the voices seem to be muffled and distant. The music isn't anything special, it can even get a bit repetitive. And the miscellaneous sounds get tiring, so it's pretty lacking in this department.
The Game Play, like the others, isn't all that great. However, there are a few Saving Graces. There are certain Events that allow you to do different things. From flying, to swimming, to snowboarding, but even then, it gets tiring real fast. It's the same old thing; you don't even get to use your weapons. You solely attack with these homing energy things. You really only get a shield as defense, which I find is pretty much useless unless you're an expert at timing.
The controls are pretty clunky too, they'll definitely take some getting used to. Especially when trying to swim. It's not hard at all, either. Occasionally you'll get hit, but there's extra health five steps away. If you're looking for a challenging game, don't look here.
The Story is what you'd expect from something Lego came up with. Six Heroes are trying to revive a seventh Hero through the means of defeating evil. There really isn't much to it other than that. The Heroes are trying to save their respective village, at the same time as trying to awaken this last one. In short, it's cheesy.
Replay value? No such thing. Nothing more to add, this game is a one time deal, nothing more, nothing less. There's nothing much Extra to unlock after, so unless you absolutely adored this game, I couldn't find any reason to replay it.
Graphics: 4/10.
Sound: 4/10.
Gameplay: 5/10.
Story: 2/10.
Replay Value: 1/10.
Overall: 3/10.
As I said at the top, I'd restate this here. Stay away from this game, it's probably one of the worst games I've played in a while. And I've played quite a few bad games. I honestly don't know how my brother could play through this game twice.
