Destroy All Humans! 2
Review by Christian of Valis
"Innovating yet lacking so much"
Ok first of all I'm a huge fan of the first game, which like everyone else I say to simply state, I have nothing against the series or even the idea of killing all humans. (even if they seem to breed like rabbits in these games). What was suppose to be a glorious concept of invading earth with a grin on your face, has all but vanished in this game I'm sad to say.
First of all the main issue, Humor. While in the first game humor played a huge role and made a lot of people laugh, towards even now you can play it again and get a few chuckles, sadly this game is without that entirely. It's simply just not funny at all, and at most times tries to be Too funny and ends up ruining any chance of a joke. It's NOT because it's to sexual either, the first game leaned a bit heavily to that as well and still remained hilarious at times unlike the bad jokes here that seem like cheap pickup lines.
Now to the second issue in this game, Button Mashing. I like playing button mashing games, and find them pretty fun at times in fighting games and such, but button mashing here seems very very unneeded. You need to mash buttons to use any PK powers, heal your saucer, take over bodies, heck even to run! It's a bit annoying at times when it could have been simple like the first game.
Next on the list is, Concept. Your trying to destroy humans that's understandable, but then why must you go far far FAR out of your way just to ruin the lives of a few? In this game there are side missions to Ruin people's lives when you should only be concerned with Destroying them. For some odd reason in this game everyone on earth knows exactly what your doing, you lure a cop to a back ally or secluded piece of land and kill him, then all of a sudden the alert meter goes up .wth was he in radio contact 24/7? No seriously your starting weapons once powered up are at most times everything you need. I have yet to even use anything on the saucer other then the death beam for a simple reason, enemies are hard as heck to kill! You'd think a triple shot of pure super-heated plasma would kill someone and not takes 6-7 shots. Or that if you picked up a car 20 feet into the air hurled with blinding force into a building it would do a lot more then scratch the paint. There are just so many things with PK I don't like compared to the first game. You snatch a body and you have a limited time in it No Mater what! You can't prolong that time and you'll have to find another soon, which means using the same Free Love PK over and over again it's just not as fun.
Good Points, yes this game does have a few good features I will admit, in fact the only things making this game playable. First of all more weapons! Yes everyone seems to love that, mass-destruction weapons in fact which in the long run only about one or two of them are completely pointless . Saucer can heal much easier which makes it a lot more fun this time around. It's a little harder to upgrade meaning you don't have to repeat the same things over and over again to get maxed out. Well that's just about it really
Story 6/10
Ok so the story is not so bad, certainly original. After ten long years are president in disguise your mother ship got blown up with pox along with it, trying to figure out who did it and why will take you along to meet some new allies and a load of new enemies. Sad thing is Crypto got a new genitalia, and seems to want the Entire game to use it.
Graphics 9/10
Ok here is another good part yet again. The detail and explosions were well made, and looked half-way decent. Nothing bad to say at all
Just not the best.
Control 10/10
Another beauty here as the control is responsive with little trouble at all. The turning speeds, moving speeds, and jumping were all made with consideration to people who played the first.
Sound 8/10
Pox and Crypto still sound like they did in the first game, which I Love by the way. Although Pox is still funny, Crypto with his new genitalia seems to have lost of a bit of the funny, and his voice got more mature to!
Replay 0/10
No reason at all would you want to play this game again. I recommend renting it and going through it once and that's it. Won't make you laugh, won't make you thrilled, it will just make you want to play the first game. (that's it you enjoyed that game either)
Overall 5/10 (or 33/50)
I'm sorry to say this could have all been A LOT better if they added something Funny, and taken out everything unneeded from the button mashing to the poor idea of it all. I looked forward to playing this game, but even the screwed up PK system makes this game seriously lacking in entertainment.
