Eragon
Review by RavensBaneXX
"Vivendi Games followed the movie's example. RUSH IT!"
Prologue- During an encounter with a shade named Durza, a female elf, Arya, uses magic to send a mysterious stone, a dragon egg, somewhere else on the continent of Alagaesia. Where a young farmboy named Eragon finds it while hunting for food. This single event starts a grand adventure of magic, tragedy, and dragons!
Oh wait, this isn't the book. SCRATCH THAT!
Gameplay: 6.5/10 - While all Hack'n'Slash games are repetitive, Eragon the Game takes it to the point of monotony. There are a few combos, some grapples, and magic, but there is absolutely nothing redeeming about the lack of free-roam. You are forced to take the path that the game is programmed with. Most of the time with horrible view angles. If all you're looking for is a nice Hack'n'Slash I recommend Devil May Cry 3 over this any day.
Now, perhaps I'm being too harsh, some of the best parts of the game aren't until later when you get to ride Saphira. At least that's what I was trying to lie to myself about. There are only THREE levels where you fly the dragon.
Sound: 8/10 - Maybe the only redeeming thing about the game was the sound quality. The voice-acting is very well done and they used the same voices as were used in the movie. Battle effects sounded real and were on-time. I've played too many games where swords would strike and there would be a second or two delay.
Music: 7/10 - Another repetitive aspect of the game is the music. I actually turned mine off and put on my own selection of gaming music by the fourth level. While I'm sure the music matches the game, I don't consider dramatic music Hack'n'Slash quality. The music in Devil May Cry 3 is much better, and still fits the game.
Graphics: 6.8/10 - The graphics cards available today can do so much more than this game challenged them to do. I felt ripped off at how poor the graphics were. They were choppy, cut-scenes were off-timing, and mouths moved when they weren't speaking, and didn't move when they did.
Overall: 7/10 - I expected much more. This proves that the game creators now-a-days are only interested in putting enough content and effort into it as the amount it's going to retail for. Even then I didn't even bother purchasing this game. I merely rented it and took it back the SAME DAY. That's how short it is. Now, I know I referenced to Devil May Cry 3 during this review, and while it is a spectacular game I was in no way comparing this game to it in terms of scores. I was merely presenting what I thought was a good game for this Genre.
