Review by Tupacrulez

"I'm Tony Montana a political prisoner, from Cuba."

"Say hello to my little friend!"

The infamous saying that is till used in movies today *shark tale recently* opens this game right up, and it opens it in a big way. Quintessentially, you are Tony Montana, defending your mansion in the final attack from Alejandro Sosa, the Bolivian cocaine dealer you have, according to him "****ed with". This game unlike Grand Theft Auto *an awesome game in it's own right* begins with this onslaught, and takes no time to heat up and throw you into the action. But enough spoilers on story, lets get to the review. Each thing will be accompanied by an appropriate quote.

Graphics: "what's that on your face Tony?"
The graphics are, to say the least, better than most free roamers out there. You won't get a saint's row caliber picture, but you'll get something a lot better than GTA, True Crime, and others. Tony looks magnificent, with the pocket on each of his suits visible, and the folds on the front. Awesome graphics for the PS2. however, there are some "jaggies" that are apparent....that lowers this slightly. Police spike strips are also, sadly, very hard to notice...so that's another point gone, for the frustration.

8/10

Controls: "Me I want what's coming to me...............The World, Chico"
The world is all the easier to get when the controls are smooth. The only fault I could find is that you can't change a lot about them, other than inverting the looks and views.....other than that, the standard scheme is well done, and on a PS2 controller, you won't be making many mistakes after the first few minutes of playing.

8/10

Sound:"Say goodnight to the bad guy!"
The sound in this game is awesome, to say the least. Giorgio Moroder's soundtrack is included...woohoo! The voices are very well done. *Other than some sayings and quotes, I didn't know it wasn't Al Pacino the whole time* Especially Tony, who's voice actor was hand picked by Al Pacino himself. A taunt button is used, and you actually can have a coherent conversation with random people. this isn't just mindless either. There is a reason...but I'll let you find that out. You cannot imagine how fun it can be to just walk down the street randomly cussing people out. This is perfect.

Gameplay: "You ****ing with the best!"
The gameplay in Scarface is, if nothing else, different from almost every free roam out there. Rather than work for other people, you work for you...Tony Montana. You are the boss. You pick up drugs, distribute them to your fronts, and then get the money form the previously dropped off goods. However, this is no rehash of smugglers run in Miami. You have to deal with people trying to off you fronts, kill you henchmen, and take your money, along with the cops, who'll find out about it when you kill these other people. It can get intense.....and sometime you feel like there is no way out, something that others haven't done well. On the subject of killing people, Tony refuses to kill innocents, true to his form. If you do happen to kill an innocent, Tony will insult himself, often saying "I'm better than this!" or something of the like. It's very interesting really. The driving could use some work, as it's not perfected quite yet. power sliding is a must learn move, and although useful, it's to frequent. I should not be able to power slide at 20 Mp/h shouldn't happen... so a few minor flaws, but nothing to ruin the game for you.

A solid 8/10

Story: "I'm Tony Montana, a political prisoner, from Cuba"
The story is this: You survived the mansion attack, and now you want it all back. Simple, yet something people pondered for all the over 20 years it's been since the movie to this game. "What if Tony lived?"
Since it's good, but very simple, and there isn't a lot of advancement other than this goal,

6/10

Value: "First you get the money, then you get the power...."
At over 60-70 bucks Canadian, this was a very high priced game. then again it got the special edition. The standard version is around 50-60 depending on where you're looking. Even then, this game is very worth it. By if you can, Rent repeatedly if you can't.

8/10 for the price....

Now that the review is done, I'll say something: You will either love this game or despise it. there's no in between. Although most I know love it, some people just don't like it. Just a last note.
