Battlefield 2: Modern Combat

"Another solid shooter from EA"
Introduction
While this game is primarily known for having great online play, which I haven't been able to try unfourtanetly, It also has great singleplayer and is a great shooter. You willl actually feel like you are a part of the battle with the hotswap action which lets you control any of the soldiers. This game has good graphics, excellent gameplay, and nice sound.
Gameplay 9/10
This aspect of the game is almost perfect. When you start a mission you will take control of a soldier that is either parachuting down to the battlefield or outside of a battle area. Reinforcement troops will frequently parachute in to help you get out of tough situations. You can switch to any of them using hotswap. If you need to take out a tank, switch to an assault soldier. If you have a far off target that is giving you trouble, switch to a sniper. There are so many options that make this game so enjoyable. I think that EA could have done a better job with the vehicle controls, but the controls for the infantry handle rather smoothly and only take about 15 to 20 minutes to learn. The AI in this game is very helpful and they actually kill people and help you progress towards your objectives. There are about fifteen missions and some of them can get pretty difficult. Overall this game has awesome gameplay.
Story 10/10
This is the usual war game. The NATO and the Chinese are at war. In some misions you play as the NATO and in some you play as the Chinese. That is pretty much it.
Graphics 8/10
This game has pretty good visuals. All of the vehicles are realistic, but the explosions aren't paticulary impressive. When you destroy a vehicle, they just dissintigrate. This looks stupid and EA looks like they got lazy with this part. The guns are also well-detailed.
Sound 9/10
There isn't that much music in this game, but when it does come on it fits the situation perfectly. When the soldiers are talking over the radio they actually have a point most of the time which is a rarity in war games. They will tell you when reinforcements are about to come in and they will tell you when the area is clear.
Replay Value 8/10
After you beat the game there isn't much to do except beat it again. You can also try to get up to the highest rank by getting stars after missions. The game is so enjoyable that you won't mind playing it over about two or three more times.
Rent or Buy
Buy if you like shooting games because this is a good one. If you don't play shooters a lot you might want to rent it first since you can probably beat it in a week.
