Battlefield 2: Modern Combat

"Battlefield 2 Modern Combat - Just what I'd expect from a BF game on PS2...."
Overview
The previous games in the impressive battlefield series have generally been very good (if buggy upon release), and I have currently owned all of the BF games in the series so far. However, I always knew that any BF game wouldn't happen on PS2. It's just not right...
Graphics
As I said this is just what I would expect form a BF game on PS2. I.E. doesn't touch the graphics of the previous PC games (yes, even '42). All the colours are blurred and dull, the models are identical but of reasonable quality, but the textures are not at all impressive. I may have been spoilt by BF2 but the PS2 can do better than this (Killzone, for example).

Gameplay
Although some of the levels are generally quite enjoyable, the gameplay is often bland, repetetive and unimaginative on the producer's part. On one of the levels it's a matter of using the new "Hot Swap" feature to jump between your soldiers on an Oil Rig and an Island to just mow down any enemy that gets near you. Doing this solidly for 20 minutes is extremely repetetive, and then if you die you are forced to drudge through the same level from the start. That ain't going to happen.
The guns in the game are also very unrealistic. A prime example of this is that you can successfully shoot an enemy soldier in the head with the shotgun from 40+ yards away while swimming. That's taking the idiotic "shotgun is teh r0x" mind set into a new league, and yet again sets the shotgun as the one true powerful weapon in a PS2 game.
However, there are a couple of positive features in the gameplay, one of these being there is a vast number of levels to play through so the game will last you a good few weeks (and will hopefully leave you with the will to live afterwards).
5/10
Sound
The quality of sound is generally quite good throughout the game, and this is pretty much the only factor that keeps the atmosphere in the game. The music is tense and fitting to what is happening on-screen and the gun sounds are good. There's not much to argue with here.
8/10
Replayability
Unless you genuinely love this game I can't forsee you wanting to replay through the campaign mode. It's repetetive and nothing changes. Dull and unexciting.
1/10
Overall Summary
In conclusion this game is poor and not worth the money you may spend on it. It is worth a rent at most, but apart from that I strongly advise you to stick with the previous PC BF games.
