Call of Duty 3

"Another WW2 game..."
Call Of Duty 3
Introduction:
Okay, it's another WW2 First Person Shooter, but with some added features! First of all the graphics, as you progress through the game, the usual cut scenes will pop up. Some eye candy here as Play station 3 graphics have been inculded in the cutscenes. Sadly, the PS3 graphics won't be used the entire game, for all those graphic lovers. A few mini games, a little AI improvement...sort of, some bonus material, and I heard theirs some awesome on line gaming going on as well. It all sums up to be a reasonable awesome game experiance.
Game Play 8/10:
Typical Call Of Duty Gameplay, follow squad leader, shoot Germans that pop up, move to next objective. Well, somtimes, mini games have suddenly popped up, from Germans attacking you right when you turn a corner, to adjusting, and firing a mortar a advancing German Infantry, and to planting stachel charges and rowing boats. All of it includes using certain buttons on your controller. It's fun while it lasts, for some people it usual gets in the way of game play. The close combat with a German Soldier infront of the screen is pretty fun as both of you struggle to kill each other.
Unlike Call Of Duty 2: Big Red One, you don't get to be the same person the entire game. Your able to play the roles of British, American, Canadian, and even Polish. Of course, each nationality gets different weapons, so you won't get an M1 Garand for a defualt weapon when your playing as a Canadian Soldier. And, like always, there is the awesome Tank Mission in this game. Only one though... it's fun while it lasts, and some destructible enviroments have found their way in. As well as playing outside the tank, your able to mess around with the enviroment as well. Toss a grenade in a house, part of the door, or stair case blows off. But not everything is destructible.
A new little feature is that you'll be able to approach an objective differently. Such as, you can take a different path to knock out an MG 42 emplacement. It's pretty unique, and defiantly adds some replay value to the game. The AI has improved, some what. Your buddies can actual kill the opposing enemy, toss grenades, provide covering fire, etc. A few times you'll find your self looking down your sights, trying to plant a round in a German's head, instead, your squad leader gets infront of you only to fire at that German Soldier. It happens every once and a while, and doesn't seem to be a problem.
There is some variety in missions as well. Calling in airstrikes, the mini games, different paths to choose, playing the role as a sniper for a short while, mainning a .30 Caliber machine gun, etc. It's pretty fun, espcially the firefights you get into to. There pretty intense, when you take cover, tracers are flying over your head, grenades bounce off you and explode somewhere else, leaving a cloud of debris and dust. Oh, and when someone tosses a grenade at you, why you can simple pick it up and throw it back at them. A useful little feature to the game, and a helpful one as well.
Story 4/10:
As the story isn't as incredible as "Brothers In Arms", you'll grow attached to the characters, and feel a little sympathy for them when something happens. The cutscenes will fill the plot in, but as beat the game, and play your favorite mission agian, your forced to rewatch the cutscene...agian, and watch all the 'drama' that unfolds the game. Most of you will get tired of this, and find your self button mashing to skip it, you can't skip it. No matter how hard you try, you can skip it. It's not all that bad, they only take a few seconds to unfold. Their is some character growth, nothing really to rave about the story. It isn't the best around to win an oscar, but atleast the gameplay is fun. It's not like cop drama or anything, so don't worry.
Graphics 9/10, Sound 7/10:
The scenary is awesome. Rubble, debris, trees, the country side, the rain affect is good as well, and all sorts of eye candy. Character models look good, as well your enemy. You won't be seeing the same German Soldier for the entire game, many of them are dressed up in camofluage, etc. Explosians look good, nothing too big, or movie explosians. Grenade explosians look good, everything looks realistic. And as far as the cutscenes, awesome, as I mentioned in the introduction. When it's night time, the lighting is good, and looks all too well. Muzzle flashes aren't big or anything close to a movie...sometimes. Blood doesn't pool around a dead german, when you shoot someone, blood pops out of them and disappears. So nothing too graphic or anything. All in all, the graphics are well done.
Sound is decent. The voiceacting is nothing to die for, it's average. When your inclose in a firefight, gunfire if pretty loud, and your buddies yell, and give out orders, etc. When german soldiers yell in German, it gets a tadd annoying as they yell the same words over and over. The sound of a firefight is done well when your close in a fight. But if your just a little aways from the fight, and even if your just a little close, the gunfire sounds way to distant and far away. It can be a problem sometimes, but the sound is really well done.
Replay Value 8/10:
You either love it, or hate it. Some people look at this game as another WW2 shooter, and look away. Others will look at this game, buy it, and enjoy the intense firefights it has to offer. As I said ealier, paths, mini games, the intense fire fights, variety in missions, and eye candy like graphics all add up to the gameplay. You'll find your self playing the game quite alot.
It's worth renting, and worth buying if you want an awesome WW2 shooter to play. Hope you enjoy the game, and happy gaming!
