Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories
Review by FaytSeaxion
"Disgaea 2: Power Beyond Imagination"
If you thought having a level 100 character in a "normal" RPG was amazing and thought that dealing 9999 damage was amazing, wait until you play this game. This game, a worthy sequel to maybe surpass it prequel, contains a great storyline, loads of comedy, and power that could make your head spin.
If you enjoy obliterating combos and high powered attacks this game is definitely for you. starting off at lv. 1 isn't much. Finishing the game at level 85-90 is good, but after you unlock the bonus material and power up more power begins to flow. Hundreds of enemies with levels higher that 9000 appear, ultimate battles await. A typical character at level 4000 can dish out about 10,300,000 damage with a high powered attack and an ultimate weapon equipped. The damage flies off the chart with "103 K"!
And also you can make your characters even stronger. Pupils to Masters level up and give masters the bonus stat points thus 1 point for every level. And if you want an obliterating weapon, you can combine weapon "residents" thus adding more to your stats. then you can explore your weapon in the "item world" to further power yourself. And if that doesn't tickle your destructive fancy, then dang it, I don't know what will.
But aside from the power, the game has a great storyline with intensional comedy. Most RPG games have comedy through innuendos that we as Americans pick up on. However, this game has intentional comedy and great facial expressions to help support the "funny".
The story line is Ironic as how in the beginning you (Adell) go to summon the main enemy of the game (Overlord Zenon) but accidentally summon his daughter. Later events trigger more characters to join your party, and also you can create characters of your own to fight in the battles to come.
Monsters can even become custom characters in your party. between Orcs, Demons, and the lovable demonic penguins of the netherworld Prinnies, you can have a diverse destructive team.
The battle system is great too. It consists of a map with a grid based movement. Damage is determined by attack and defence, but also as character placement. Allies with high likeness rates perform team attacks, while single characters can dish out more damage from the side or even more damage by attacking the back of the enemy. Magic and other abilities become available as you progress, as well as higher character classes. Felonies, which are considered demons war medals, are given to characters who commit "devious" crimes. These can be used to make a character pay less at shops, and even make the dark court agree with you more. The dark court is used to have characters suggest bills to the senators to give you things such as "better items". The senators may not agree with you, so give them bribes to persuade them. And if you fail, you could always persuade by force...
