Aliens Versus Predator: Extinction

Review by Jason_Ryu

"The Game that fans have been waiting for!"

This is one of my favorite games by far. I played this game for well over 3 months straight. Fans of Aliens and/or Predators will find this game VERY enjoyable. While the game is good, it does have its downsides too.

Story: 2
Okay, I have to admit, there really isn't much of a story at all. As the Marines, you must defeat your enemies while doing various "search and rescue" missions. As the Predators, you must hunt and collect trophies while doing anything you can to prevent dishonor. As the Aliens, you must kill the enemy and spread the hive. so, as you can see, there really isn't much to the story. The worst part is, aside from the REALLY cool intro movie, there are NO cutscenes at all!

Gameplay: 9
This is where the game really shines. The controls are very good and very easy to get used to. The only real problems gameplay-wise are collision detection, and if there are more than 60-70 characters on screen AND fighting, the game lags very badly; but if they aren't fighting, there is no lag. The gore is also very nice, I was actually surprised that this got a T rating.

Sound: 10
The sound is EXCELLENT! The music fits the mood, and the in game noises are very nice. The game actually uses noises from the movies, so they are very realistic. Also, the sounds of chests bursting and spines ripping are VERY satisfying. All together, the sounds will make you feel like you're really in the game.

Graphics: 9
The graphics are very detailed. The environments look real and the character models are excellent. The plasma, acid, blood, creatures, and structures all look excellent. The only problem is that sometimes the smaller characters (like facehuggers) will blend in to the environment, so it is easy to lose them.

Creativity: 10
There are a lot of different things in this game. There are many different locations; most of which do not look or feel the same. There are a lot of different units per team, each with its own unique functions and abilities. A lot of the missions are unique and enjoyable. Also, each team has its own advantages and disadvantages that it doesn't share with the other teams.

Replayability: 9
The missions are enjoyable, the game is addicting, and it is VERY hard to beat a mission the same way twice. Each team has 7 levels, and, if you get a gold medal on each of the 7 missions, you unlock cheat codes for that team! I played this game for a very long time, and I still play it from time to time.

Overall: 9 (not an average)
This game is excellent and I recommend it to anyone. Sure, it has its flaws, but what game doesn't? Really though, I have to admit that I am a HUGE fan of the Alien Legacy, and I enjoy the Predator movies. I believe that this is a great game, but chances are that only fans will really make their purchase worth it. Actually, this game is for fans AND those who enjoy mindless killing and gore with no regard for the enemy.
