"What Happened? Where's Everything Cool?!"

I'll be honest here. I haven't played PS2 version of Spider-Man 2, but I played the version for the Gamecube. It was great and I truly enjoyed it for all the things in it. So, when I got the chance to get this version to play, I at least hope it be just as good even if it wasn't a PS3 or Xbox 360 version.

Storyline:

Let's see here! I haven't seen the movie, but I can truly say that this game skipped and left out a lot of parts from it. Some important parts as Spiderman learning that Sandman truly killed his uncle was left out or other things like that. I can say that I did enjoy the fact that the creators added other things to the storyline to try to make up for it, like including The Lizard, but I still feel the storyline wasn't that strong.

5 out of 10!

Graphics:

Spider-Man looks awesome! He has been created beautifully and he shines nicely too! But what about thing else?! New York City looks ugly! The previous version had a nice detail to the city, but I highly believe the creators could have done a better job. But the city still looks decent, the fires, the cars, and most of the people look nice at least. Cut scenes are nice as well.

Detail:

As mention before, NYC looks ugly!! That's with a capital U! I looked back at the 2 game and I felt that was better detailed! Also, what happened to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty? Why can't we go back again?! The people themselves are well nice and the gangs are cool looking, but I feel that the creators could of made more NPCs and characters models.

Back to New York City, I look at the old version I look back at the 3rd game. Most of the things in old version, like the payment of the road or ground objects were nice and decent. With this version, there are barely any objects on the ground besides the people and cars and everything has done down so the ground looks more painted on then detail and realistic.

6 out of 10!

Sound:

I can't really say there is much besides the people speaking and a little bit of background music. Sure, during a boss fight there is a bit more, but there is nothing really. I do enjoy the narrator's voice and his jokes, but I wish there was more of him. Also, Toby does a decent job at speaking his lines.

5 out of 10!

Controls:

This is where the game is good. It took me a little bit, but I figured out the controls and soon I could cross NYC from one side to the other in 3 minutes... ok... maybe not, but the controls are smooth and web control felt easier to move around that the 2 version. Plus, PS2 controls were easier to adjust than the Gamecube so it took me no time to get the hang of it.

9 out of 10!

Missions and Hidden Gems:

This is where I felt mixed about everything. To say the positives, I enjoyed the Gang missions and I felt it was a constant challenge while on Gang Patrol and trying to get from one point to another. Each gang had their own type of thug that was interesting to battle and had their own strength and weakness. Certain missions were interesting and a good challenge, the hanglider challenge was good, while some felt... dull.

Now on to the bad parts, what happened to all of the tokens? I enjoyed searching for them and loved that part of the game! Now their gone!

Also, I might as well mention the in between missions. They are called City Alerts and can be easy or painfully hard. Trying to get a sick person to the hospital on time is hard and their health drains so quickly that it is nearly impossible unless the hospital is close by. Also, some of the city alerts are incredibly dumb. Like the fact you must retrieve a crate of fruit pies or something like that from bad guys!

Other Mentions:

This game can be glitchy! When ever I stop vandals from destroying and statue, I notice the statue is floating off the ground! People can actually walk through solid objects like cars and dumpsters as well! Also, if you are ever web slinging to close to a building, when you touch it, you let go of your web and seem to glide across it! What's with that?!

I like to mention also that the black suit is very nice and does a lot of damage, but you really don't need to use it to beat a mission. Also, some of the combat moves from the last game are gone in action! Such as being able to grab an opponent and hold them or hanging them from a street light.

On the positive side, I enjoy the new Hero Point system and still found collecting the meteorites around New York City still fun and a good challenge since they are even harder to find.

All in all, unless you are a big fan, rent this game. Good thing I did. I did enjoy the gang system and the new Hero Point system as well, but I wish the company did a better job at making this game. It could have been greater than it is.

My final Score: 6 out of 10!
