Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s
Review by Kurohyasha
"Great, but not perfect."
I was expecting so much from this title, and when I popped it in, I was disappointed about a couple things.
Gameplay: Still a 10.5/10
Really the gameplay has never changed, and that is a good thing. Really, unless nessicary, you really should never mess with the core style of gameplay, ala the Fret buttons, etc. This part I really enjoyed, because GH is such a BLAST to play.
Track List: 5/10
ONLY 30 SONGS?!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU, ACTIVISION?! Really, Activision could only squeeze 30 songs from the 80's on one disc, almost the same as the original GH, but with one HUGE difference. BONUS SONGS!!! That plus the fact that the songs they chose, aren't the ones I would have liked. Really, I would have taken "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by the "Scorpions" anyday over "No One Like You." Very, very, very disappointed in you, Activision/Red Octane. You'd best better pump up the track list for GHIII to make up for this lackluster list!
Graphics: 6/10
Really, hardly a change. All they did was take six of the 11 characters that were in GHII, and gave them new outfits. THAT'S IT, and just made the venues, outfits, opening video, main menu, all more colorful! Extremely disappointed in the lack of effort.
Multiplayer: 9/10
Probably the saving grace is that they included Co-Op play in there. I never can do Co-Op because I don't have a second guitar controller... yet... but that's beyond my point here. The modes for multiplayer still rule.
Fun Factor: 9.5/10
I still get to have such a joy when I play some of my favorite songs from the decade I was born midway into. Now if they'd REALLY want to make an encore in my opinion, include extra songs, and that score would be a 10/10, because playing the same 30 songs over and over again, seriously gets old after a while. I prefer to jump around songs, practicing like crazy to try to get the Hard and Expert difficulties nailed. More songs = more joy.
Overall: 7/10
Overall, a large letdown to me. I was expecting so many more great songs from the 80's but only got a handful. Next time, Red Octane/Activision, get it right, and do a genre, NOT A DECADE!
