Soul Reaver 2
Review by wolverinefan
"Let the boredom continue"
Story
The game starts where the first one left off. Kain escapes and you chase him through a portal and meet some guy who has a stone that makes it so vampires can't attack. He says he wants to help you but Raziel doesn't know is he can be trusted. You continue your search for Kain and everything goes on from there. The story really would be great if you didn't forget your quest you can finish it. The ending is lackluster and leaves it open for another game and makes you wonder why you just played through this game. I give story a 6/10
Control
The control is okay at first until you get in your first battle, then you will be screaming at the screen cause the auto face is insanely hard to get to work. A lot of moves were cut out from the first one and some new ones were added but they are worthless. I give control a 7/10
Voice Acting, Sound Effects and Music
The voice acting is from the first game and well it just plain sucks. There isn't any feeling in the way the actors speak their lines and it makes the story even more boring, if possible. The sound effects could use a lot of work. Going up stairs sounds so very wrong and I just can't explain it. The music is okay and fits in the mood in spots but in some places it just sucks. I give voice acting, sound effects and music a 6/10
Game play
Game play? What game play!? You run around huge areas that have a lot of fog, fighting an enemy every five minutes or so and then solve some puzzle a three year old could figure out with his eyes closed. The areas are very vast but you can't really wonder off from where you have to go cause the game takes you by the hand and leads you all the way through. This leaves little to do in these huge areas that don't really have much in them. The enemies are about as dumb as a rock and can be killed in a couple hits. You can't really die, you just go to the other realm and suck up some spirits to refill your health so you can go back to the real world. There isn't any boss except at the end and this backs the game even more boring. Another problem with game play is there is hardly any save points, they are always far apart and you can never find one when you really need it. The biggest problem though is the glitches. The game can crash at any second and doors can vanish leaving a white screen you can't get rid of unless you reset your PS2. Yet another problem is the fact that the cut scenes are like 5 minutes long and happen a lot and you can't skip them! The framerate is also jumpy but it can be hard to notice as you walk around those vast areas with no enemies around. I give game play a 4/10
Replay Value
There is a good amount of stuff to unlock but it's all unlocked by the time you beat the game. There is no reason to play the game after you beat it cause there are no secrets to get after beating it. I give replay value a 1/10
Final Score
I give Soul Reaver 2 a 4/10
