"I'd hang up that air guitar.....for now."

As an avid Guitar Hero junkie, I might get harassed for giving it an 8 out of ten here, but think of what system I'm doing it for, the PS2. After getting on release day, I was flipping out over the prospect of playing it, not giving a crap weither it had online play or not. I was fully aware of downloadable songs for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but I was happy having the game in its own right. After playing it, and beating it, I was bored. So here is my more detailed review of Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2.

Gameplay: It's Guitar Hero. There's really no new additions to it, besides the guitar battles. I personally found the guitar battles to be good fun, and they're pretty much what kept me playing after playing the game and beating it on Hard. I've noticed the the game is a bit faster than its predecessors. I say this because I've recently began playing Guitar Hero: Rock the 80's again, and ended up five starring the songs I couldn't even four star when I was still playing Guitar Hero's 1, 2, and Rock the 80's. All in all I give the gameplay a 9/10.

Graphics: This is where the game mostly let's down. Weren't we promised clean, sparkly, shiny, smooth graphics? Apparently the drummer having a spastic seizure, and the singer looking like a monkey is good graphics. I played the demo for the 360, and I was impressed, making me want the game even more. To me, this area was a letdown for me. This particular area gets a 6/10.

Song Choice: I honestly think most of the songs are pretty good, but considering I listen to that kind of music. I WOULD obviously think that. I honestly had fun playing these songs, as they were good and challenging, but not exactly like Jordan or Bark At The Moon. The bonus songs were a nice selection, and like I said before, not to hard. Overall, I loved the setlist for this game. I give this a 10/10.

Other Stuff: Remember, we're talking about the Playstation 2 here, so this part will receive a low score. This is the only area where the PS2 version lacks besides graphics. If you're into the game to look good online, to play other songs besides the ones given to you, or you just want to play as the Grim Ripper, then avoid the PS2 version at all cost! The PS2 and the Wii contain two exclusive characters not available in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, and vice-versa. The PS2 and Wii versions contain a robot named Metal Head, and an Elvis ripoff named Elroy Budvis. Both characters make me steam, but if I *HAD* to chose, then I'd go with Metal Head. Whilst those versions contain crappy characters in my opinion, the PS3 and 360 versions have the Grim Ripper and God of Rock. This is a plus for me, considering I think Ripper is the best Character out there, and I've always wanted to play as the God of Rock. For the PS2, this section gets a 3/10.

Multiplayer: This is the strong point of the game, if you've gotten bored with playing the battles over and over again. Unfortunately, I lack this luxury. Multiplayer! Like the previous games, this one has Co-op, and competitive shredding. A new addition is the battle mode. Aside from battling the three computers, you can battle you friend using any song besides the battle songs used in single player. I'll give this part an 8/10.

Overall, I'd only pick up this version if you're feeling cheap, down on money, or only have a Playstation 2, or just want to play Guitar Hero 3. Other than that, the PS2 version offers nothing else the other versions do. If you have a choice, pick it up for the 360, it has downloadable content, three tracks picked up from the Guitar Hero 3 Soundtrack, and some more. It also has FUNCTIONING online multiplayer. Plus I prefer the Les Paul over the Striker any day.
