Zombie Hunters 2
Review by DargorTroo
"Better than expected"
Zombie Hunters 2 is a simple game, small enough to fit a cd, instead of a dvd. In fact, it does make sense when you look the game. Basically, you pick a bunch of hot girls in sensual clothes and start slashing zombies and other monsters. The game relies on battles, because the storyline is weak (not something horrible, but a little bit above "boring"), and, surprisingly, it isn't a bad thing. Of course, in the beginning, you will fight just common zombies, which seem dead not only by their look, but by the way they fight too. They just gang up on you and strike by surprise, while you're busy slashing other enemies. It looks boring, but the gameplay itself is pretty fun, containing fast-paced action with a fairly amount of sword tricks, not to mention some melee attack (not so useful though) and a "unique attack" (which can be throwing knives, shotgun or even a limb rip-off, depending on the character you chose).
Talking about characters, there are a good number of then, and after the first stage, you can even tag them, switching between them as you wish. The downside is: Some of the characters have a different story, so they don't fight alongside. And, by "different story", I mean "the same stages but with different motivations". They recycle a lot the graphics on the stages (what is a bad thing, since you have only six of them), just like a Flintstones cartoon. Paired stages 1-4, 2-3 and 5-6 are the same locations, with some different areas. It's not exactly everything the same, but the difference is minimal.
Even though graphics are statically good, on motion there are some noticeable flaws. One of them is "shaken" graphics sometimes, but it's a small thing. The big thing is the dropdown of the frame rate when zombies pop up more than they should. The game simply cannot take all that polygons at once, and you will want to kill the zombies not only to progress through the game, but to restore the frame rate too.
There are no more "bad things" I'd like to point from Zombie Hunters 2 (except, maybe, a little cheap fighting style from the bosses, but it's ok). In fact, the good things resides in the combat, helped by a good gameplay, graphics and sound. The way you can fight, the way you can slash, many enemies, much fun. Damn! It's pretty good! You can say "oh, it's kinda... button-mashing". Yes, it is. Just like Onimusha or Devil May Cry, and I don't think Zombie Hunters 2 stays behind these games, in terms of gameplay and combat. Some kind of levelling system adds fun too, since you have to build your characters the way you can use them better.
A good game to play, indeed. Despite its "graphical" problems, Zombie Hunters 2 can provide a few hours of hack'n slash fun. Not the game you will spend hours and hours playing, but the kind you will miss after some time and play again, just for some fun and thrill fights, and maybe some pretty girls too.
