Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Review by Kainync
"Solid selection, a must for Aerosmith fan!"
Hi there! Guitar Hero was always considered like a solid game that was like a tempest in the gaming world. The series let introduce to players some great piece of music that made history, like Free Bird or Bark at the Moon or even the insane Through the Fire and Flames. And now, we can learn the history of one of the greatest groups that have marked the 20th century. Love it or hate it, Aerosmith is here for you to hear some of his greatest hits! Let's begin this review, shall we?
Gameplay: 9/10
The basic structure of the Guitar Hero series is pretty simple: you play on a simulated guitar and you try to make your way to the top with your band by crossing venues and play some killer songs to make your crowd like «Awwwwww!» You have five frets to play with on your guitar and four difficulty modes to try: easy, medium, hard and expert. You begin with three frets on easy and when you are on the expert level, you are able to use all of your frets. Songs are listed by order of difficulty.
The gameplay is very accessible, in fact. Even the newbie will be able to clear the easiest song. And surprisingly as it is, the hard difficulty mode IS hard in fact. And with tons and tons of bonuses, you won't find it boring to play. The only minor flaw of this section is the lack of downloadable content, since this version is on a PS2. But even with that, the gameplay is very well done.
Story: 10/10
Well, you have some sort of story for a music game. You follow the history of Aerosmith from their begginings at a school concert all the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Between each set of songs, you can hear members of the group comment how they were feeling and how it was.
Graphics and sound: 8/10
The game use the same engine from the Guitar Hero III game, so no surprises here. However, some graphics are not very well done. The Aerosmith signer is not made well and his mouth makes me think of a monkey with a very large mouth. Another thing is the lack of realism in the movements with the musicians of the group Aerosmith. It makes me the impression that they are from the 1970's Thunderbirds TV show. Besides that, graphics are perfect.
Sounds are very well done. All of the songs made by Aerosmith are master tracks. There are some songs that are covers, but generally they are very good.
Play time/replayability: 10/10
Play time is great. You can play for hours and you won't get bored. The minimum time for completing one level difficulty is usually three hours of gameplay. However, to complete this game, it would take at least one week. Since this is a music game, replayability is limitless.
Rent of buy?
Buy it, of course. Rent it if you're not sure, but to fully enjoy this game, you must have it. The guitar controller is a must have also. You can play the game with a regular controller, however it is harder and not very fun.
