Army Men: RTS
Review by Ageus
"A surprisingly good RTS game"
This is my first review, so here it goes!
Gameplay:
This game has fairly good gameplay with no major flaws except the AI. I mean come on, with all the game designers down at 3DO, they all forgot to put in any AI? For example, If you order a medic to heal a unit, what does he do? He goes and puts himself in the line of fire to do it. I had to learn the hard way about that. Your men, if left on there own, will always target the weaker enemies and get killed by the strong ones by doing it. Other than that I had no problems, the camera works very well, and the frame rate is good.
8/10
Story:
The story is very good. Sarge and Co. are called in to take out a green general that has sustained a massive head wound and has gone tan. Your mission? Wipe him off the map. You go through a good amount of fun and varying missions from get from point A to point B, to basic base building. You even get to escort a group of legomen down a road. The units are very interesting, with grunts, grenadiers, machine gunners, snipers, mortarmen, tanks, helicopters, paratroopers, halftracks, and many other units. The heroes are very good. They are strong enough to be useful, but not enough to win the battle. I appreciate this because in most games you can send in a couple heroes against an army and win with no casualties.
10/10
Graphics:
Nothing special, but the environments are nicely suited to show where you are supposed to be from sandbox to the basement.
8/10
Sound:
The music is very good, suiting the mood at all times. The voice acting is not so great though. Whenever Sarge talks, his mouth moves at way different times. basically just opening and closing.
Replayability:
This game has great replay value, with each mission having certain objectives to be fulfilled. A bronze medal unlocks an intelligence file, basically just a units picture that runs, says phrases and does poses. A silver medal unlocks 2 intelligence files, and a gold unlocks either a great battles or special operations missions. In my opinion, the special operations missions are the best part of the game, with fun objectives like freeing hostages, sacking a castle( a sand castle of course), and setting up a road block.
10/10
Final Reccomendation:
A surprisingly good game with all the great fun of RTS games, and a variety of different units, buildings, and heroes. I would buy it.
