The Best PS2 Flight Sim Ever
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is a flight simulator on the PS2 and it is quite possibly one of the best on the console. AC contains over 30 different missions to complete with you leading three of your wingmen.
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics in the game are awesome, if someone lied and told me AC5 was a ps3 game I would believe them, that's how good the graphics are.
Sound: 10/10
The soundtrack is superb and there are no issues with sound effects. Everything sounds like it should from the roar of the afterburner to the exploding plane you shoot down.
Story: 10/10
The story is interesting and AC5 goes deep into politics throughout the game. From the beginning your character goes from a runt to a legend by the end of the game as you progress. There are also many plot twists along the way. The story is definitely better than AC4.
Gameplay: 8/10
There are several minor issues with the gameplay that could have been done better in my opinion. You can issue orders to the wingmen such as disperse, cover, and attack which I think is pretty cool but the wingmen A.I. could still be improved . For example, for every enemy the wingmen kill I already shot down twenty enemies, I wish it could be more balanced. Also I would have liked a limit on how many missiles and bombs the planes carried, it's not very realistic to have an F14 to carry 52 missiles. I think Namco should focus on realism on the campaign mode and limit missiles but on arcade mode let planes carry more missiles. Also it would be cool if you could take-off and land more often. Otherwise the gameplay is better than most flight sims out there.
Replay Value: 9/10
There are plenty unlockables after you finish the game, there are plenty of planes to unlock over 20 different planes and each plane has different unlockable colors and weapons. And after you complete the game harder modes such as expert and ace are unlocked
Overall Value : 9/10
I give Ace Combat 5 a nine out of ten, the only reason this game doesn't get a ten is because the gameplay and A.I. could be a little more realistic. If you have a ps2 and you like flight sims do not pass this game up.
