"The fun parts of the game are enough to outweigh it's flaws"

Destroy All Humans is a fun quirky title where you play as an alien invading Earth. Overall the game is really fun, but it does have it's fair share of flaws. Luckily killing humans is fun enough that you should be able to look past most of them.

You go from city to city completing missions, and the cities have a good enough size to them that they are actually worth exploring. When done with a mission you can stay in the city to complete side missions or just run around shooting people. And while going on crazy rampages is fun, the side missions are not. Most of them are boring or unimaginative, and they tend to get very repetitive as well. And for doing this missions you get DNA, which is basically the currency in the game. But for some reason, after you complete a mission, you need a set amount of DNA to unlock the next one. This would be fine, except for the fact that you use DNA to unlock your new abilities and upgrades. So you get DNA, spend it, and then have to run around killing people and doing side missions just to get back to the main game.

The actual core gameplay is a little more solid than that though. You play missions either on foot, or in your flying saucer. And for the most part the game is fun. The level designs are nice and the limited weapons you have deal a satisfying amount of damage. The game is definitely too easy, but this is remedied by the fact that there aren't any check points. So if you die at the end of a mission, you have to start it over again. This is both frustrating and necessary for the game.

But unfortunately once again it seems the bare minimum was put in to keep the game from being repetitive though. Although the missions are all "different," you still feel like you're doing the same thing over and over. There are only 4 types of guns in the game too, which again leaves your choices of destruction pretty limited. You also have psychic powers, well, you get four of them anyways.

Even with it's problems though, this game is enjoyable. It's one of the few games that are actually funny, and it's a pretty short game, which although is usually a bad thing, in this game I feel it makes it end before you're able to get bored with it. It has some pretty nifty unlockables as well.

I did have a lot of fun playing this game, but it just seems very incomplete. Overall this is a game not to be taken seriously, but as a timekiller you could definitely do worse.
