Midnight Club: Street Racing
Review by CBandicoot
"Kick the tires and light the fires, we're racing on PS2!"
Sup ya'll! I'm the one who made the FAQ under the name ''HWesley''! Anyway, I think this game rocks. Not just because it is one of the only racing games available for PS2 until GT3, but it also because it can stand on its own merits!!
Gameplay: A definite A+! The cars all feel just right, and your car controls beautifully. There is a balance between cars. Some are built for durability or handling with a loss of speed, others are speed demons that can barely take one good collision. At high speeds, I suggest using the Analog sticks because, as in real life, cars get touchy at high speed. There are unlockables out the wazoo as well..... Not any more modes or anything, but rather a wealth of cars perfect for unlockin'! The levels are huge as well, and hold a wealth of buildings to drive through and shortcuts to blaze!!
Gameplay Score: 10
Story: It's hard to give a run-down on a plot based on real life. Yes, there are Street Racers like this. While there really isn't anything along the lines of getting to know people or anything, this IS a racing game after all. As such, your fellow racer's lines are pretty good and fit the situation well.
Story Score: 9
Graphics: While the graphics don't seem to be quite as bright as on the box, that might be to make the finished product more realistic and shady. The graphics hold their own against all the other games, and you have to see rain drops falling below a street light. When you enter a building or tunnel, the rain stops. While this may seem simple, many games overlook this fact. Held up against the other first-generation launch games, it definitly holds its own.
Graphics Score: 10
Audio:The audio is actually pretty good. Engine sound effects, horns, skids, and sirens are all done very well. The sound of rain is also very good. The in-game music is nothing outstanding, but you'll be too busy playing to notice that too much. While the pedestrians have very few lines, the other racers have a lot!! They have three or four+ lines to say at any given situation. Behind you, in front of you, before a race, after a race, etc....
Audio Score: 10
Replayability: BIG TIME! You'll always be exploring new areas, trying to make the jump further, flip more, land on that rooftop, drive through the........
Replayability: 9
Buy/Rent: Buy!! If you like racing games, you'll want this one! Hours of racin' fun!!
In Conclusion...... a very well made game. With the upcoming MC:SR2, I can't wait to see what the future of Street Racing is!!!! The only thing that kept it was a perfect score was what the future may bring!!
