Gauntlet Dark Legacy

Intro:
GDL is the sequal to Gauntlet Legands, a popular game that shows up on many systems. Midway's attempt to create a second Gauntlet was pretty good, but then again, still could have used some work.

Presentation: 6
This score does not really effect the games gameplay at all, its just how the game opens up, and how much you can choose from in the start of the game. Anyway, the game starts with a fairly good FMV, then cuts to the main menu. DAMN! only the usual ''Start'' and ''Options'', thats it...I mean come on, there should have been survival, deathmatch, password, and other cool features. I guess that will be Gauntlet3...

Story: 7
Hmm, pretty weird story. I still dont clearly understand what the heck is going on, but somehow it seems pretty good. Better than just saving the earth, or defeating 1 bad guy. Could have made more since though.

Graphics: 8
This was tuff to score. It wasnt quite a 9, but it really was not a 8...but I guess its a 8 because its definitly not a 9. But heres why, the movies are awsome, but the game itself still has nintendo 64 and dreamcast grahics mixed. This game does not bring out the true power of the PS2. Nice mafic effects, but the levels are very dark, and hides almost all of the detail. The characters are also blocky. To bad it doesnt have ''Bouncer, The'' or ''Tekken Tag'' graphics.

Control: 9
All the buttons were used, just not select, and the LandR buttons. The control would have gotten a perfect score, but the camera angles needed to be ajusted at times. Thats where you need the extra buttons.

Gameplay: 9
Tons of levels, objectives, tons of items to collect...its just huge! each level takes an average of 20-30 mins to beat. And whasts great is that each lvel is totaly diffrent! The stats (RPG type) for each character is great because you can gain levels and raise your stats. As well as get new equipment.

Replay Value: 8
Its addictive! you will be coming back for more and more. Seeking out what is new in the next level. And you also want to keep getting all the secrets.

Lasting Apeal: 8
Its a grat game at that, and 1 player tends to get a little boring after awhile, but get a friend or 2, or 3, and let the party get started! there are also 8 secret characters to be unlocked, which added tons of replay value (since the secret ones are cooler than the otherd).

Buy or Rent: Buy
I bought this game without trying it. I was not a fan of G:Legands at ALL! but I said ''Maybe Miday would change this game around to my likeings'', so I took a chance, and I love it! And I also HATE these types of ''beat em up'' games, and it just so happens this game cathces my attention. BUT! if your expecting great graphics, and thats all tht matters, I suggest you go buy ''Bouncer, The'' or ''Star wars starfighter''. So rent it if your not into these typers of games.
