"Possibly the best off-road racing game ever..."

As the 4x4 Evolution series becomes more popular the game also improves as new editions are released. I now played both the Playstation 2 and the Dreamcast version of the game and I have to say that the Playstation 2 version is much better.

FEATURES

THE CARSà 4x4 Evo includes Fords, Nissans, Toyotas, Lexus, Jeeps(which weren’t in the Dreamcast version), and Chevrolets.
THE TRACKS-> There are 15 unique courses to race your vehicles on.
Career Mode-> Race other 4x4’s to win money to purchase new cars and parts.
TIME ATTACK & QUICK RACE MODES-> Race for a new top time or just to practice you off roadin’ skills.

SOUND

The sound in 4x4 Evolution is very good. Everything is accurate down to the sound of debris bouncing off the hood of your 4x4. If you drive through a puddle or even in the ocean you can hear the water sloshing around your car. The only bad thing about the sound is the engine sounds and they aren’t terrible.

GRAPHICS

The first time I played this game I was amazed by the graphics. The cars are about as detailed as any game I have ever seen. They are even better than Gran Turismo! The courses that you can race on don’t look to bad either. When you drive through mud puddles you can see the water rippling around the car. Another cool little detail that I noticed while playing this game is the road signs. Most people probable don’t notice them but they are there and they are all correct as well.

CONTROL

4x4 Evolution is like Gran Turismo in how the cars feel as you drive them. No two cars feel the same and if you make modifications to them the control changes a little bit. After a little bit of practice it becomes fairly easy to control.

REPLAYABILITY
----------
4x4 Evolution is a game that is very fun all the way through. Whether you are in Career or Quick Race mode it does not get old at all. With all the cars, modifications, and tracks to race on this game will last you a long, long, time. Something else that I think is very good about this game is how it never seems like a chore to play it.

All the way through 4x4 Evolution is a great game for just about everyone. Every die-hard off road racing fan should definitely at least rent this one. For me this is a must keep.
