"Just another turd in the punchbowl"

I've played many Gauntlet games, and I must say that with each new one, it seems to get more and more redundant. Read the rest of this review; you'll see what I mean.

Graphics: 5/10
Just like all the other Gauntlet games in 3-D. Kind of generic, not too pretty. But middle-of-the-road graphics. It's not like graphics are too important anyway. The camera in this game is also awful. Almost all of the time, the camera, instead of panning out to show you the path you're on, will stay close to you, which can be a problem sometimes, but not a lot. Still a problem though. But there are some good points. There aren't any horrible graphical glitches or disasters. Which is a good thing, mind you. ^_^

Music / Sound: 4/10
You basic ''clings'' and ''clangs'' and hacking-slashing noises. Not very good ones at that. This game will have you reaching for the remote within 5 minutes of play. The music can be ok, but only for a few minutes of hearing a certain song. Then they just get kind of annoying. Overall, the music isn't too enjoyable, but it beats Barney, and you've gotta be happy for it there. ^_^

Gameplay: 3/10
Your basic hack-and-slash game. Even though this is a PS2 game, Midway didn't take advantage of this new powerful engine on their hands, and try to make an awesome sequel. Instead, they just redesigned, no wait, I mean rehashed some levels from Gauntlet: Legends and added more enemies per square foot. The game is very redundant, and like I said, instead of being a true sequel, it is basically just a remake of Gauntlet: Legends, which was a remake itself. o.O You still with me? Good. But, even so, it still has a little bit of depth, which is always good. ^_^ This game tells me that sometimes 2-D can beat 3-D into a bloody pulp if you're not careful.

Overall Entertainment: 5/10
Like I said above this game is redundant and mundane. It can be kind of fun in multiplayer, but not very. But if you're playing by yourself, this game can be kind of... how do I put this.... crappy. Although, the game can get very corny and cheesy, once you get into it (which will probably be very hard to do). This game is, just like it's graphics, middle-of-the-road.

Overall Score: 5/10
Unless you're a huge fan of the series, rent this. IF you must have it, then buy it, but only if you're a hardcore Gauntlet fan. Otherwise, you should go out and buy the classics, and play the original Gauntlet games. Those were the best, and still are. Midway has yet to make a better Gauntlet game than the originals. At least they weren't as repetitive.
