Review by Anabuhabkuss

"Nothing we haven't seen before."

First off, it's important for me to clear that I am not disappointed because this game hadn't lived up to any hype I might have had for it. In fact, I didn't really hear anything about Extermination except for an article I read about it on EGM.

I picked it up the day it came out.....and returned it after 8hrs of playing it.

A little over two and a half hours of gameplay time (which roughly translated to 7-8 hrs of real life playing for me) into the game, it became apparent that the gameplay was nothing more of a hybrid of Winback/Carrier/Resident Evil/MGS with no originality in story or level design whatsoever. When you play this game, you will see nothing absolutely new or original about it. Hell I didn't even find it remotely scary or creepy as, sayyy, the recent Alone in the Dark or even any of the Resident Evil's. The only thing scary about this game is it's execution.

The controls are nice and get the job done. There are times when they can be awkward though. The camera can also serve as a pain and get in your way.

Graphics aren't what you expect for a second generation PS2 title. While there are thankfully some nice draw distances, the uninspired characters and monsters look nothing more than a high res version of something that was done on a PSX or an N64 game.

Sound is ok. People have said it's downright creepy when it never really got my attention nor did it make me feel any suspense or tension. What's worse is that the voice acting is downright god awful and isn't even in sinc with the characters lips. This alone shows that DeepSpace (developers of the game) were in a rush to get this thing out.

As far as replayability goes, I haven't beat the game. The game starts off so damn slow and is so boring that I gave up and lost patience knowing there are more games out now that can probably grasp my attention and make me care alot quicker than this game did.

This game does NOTHING to advance the genres that inspired it nor has it expanded them in anyway. There just isn't much to this mediocre game. Rental at best. It's a competitive world and there's too many games out there to be bothered with than unoriginal stuff like this. I have two rules for games like these, either get it down to be able to flatter the games that inspired it or expand the genre in some way rather than do a half-assed rehash of it.
