CART Fury Championship Racing
Review by Toyota Supra
"Great and bad all at the same time!"
One of the first CART games for the PlayStation 2 console isn't exactly realistic, great or anything, but it is fun and has a sorta good replay value.
Gameplay
The cars handle very easly and you barly have to slow down, even on the sharpest turn. The framerate is very good and almost never skips a beat. Even in the games simulation mode you swear you are still playing a fantasy racing game like F-Zero or Wipeout. There is nothing really special out the gameplay in any of the modes. One thing I notcied is the cars seem to be very unbalanced. When you use your boost stuff you fly at about 230 mph FOR EVERY car. But when you let off the turbo your car slows down to about 207. But every car seem to be able to pass you, no matter what are you use. Even though sometimes you fly by them. It's very strange.
Graphics
The graphics are nothing special. The cars themself look amazing, and the selection screens for the cars are pretty cool. But the acutal gameplay is nothing to go, ''OH WOW'' over. When you are every close to something you can tell how bland everything is. The tracks and everything else look really strange and blocky. The polygon count must have been very very low for most of the things in the game. There is too much eye candy in the game. I feel that the buildings are more detailed than the acutal game itself, and for what, so you can look at them and smash into walls? The graphics aren't Midways best.
Sound
The sound is absoutly terriable. You can never really hear the cars engine and doesn't sound very realistic...the only time you can hear A cars engine is when you pass or get passed, but even then you can tell that the sounds have been pre-recorded and set for every time something of the sort happens. The crash sounds aren't realistic either. They sound like someone farting. The pit crew talking on the radio and the announcer only have like 2 things they say. ''He crashes'' and ''No more boost'' It's nothing special.
Replay Value
There are a number of things to do in the game. There is arcade mode, simulation mode, season mode, driving 101, and sub-games. I really only play the sub-games because this is the place where the game is really fun. There are sub-games like lock on, Don't let him pass, etc. There is even a mode where your mission is to just to crash the other cars. It's pretty fun and fun to do with another person. This is proably the only reason I kept this game.
Overall
If you are a hardcore F1 fan or even like F1 racing, then you will not like this game if you want to do season and stuff.
I give it a 6 because it's kinda bad and good at the same time, very strange game.
