Midnight Club: Street Racing
Review by Madgamer
"Crazy Taxi meet Need for Speed!"
Aloha pals! It's Madgamer with the marvelous Midnight Club: Street Racing( why does it seem like people just say Midnight Club and don't add Street Racing? It's only 2 seconds out of your life!). Here's my opinion:
Gameplay: Addicting. This is the best racing game I've ever played when it comes to gameplay. With 2 detailed cities and different racing styles, you can barely go wrong. But this sure didn't. This is a very fast paced game with some of the most awesome secrets in a PS2 game! Mode wise, it isn't very varied. In Pro Career you get the real game. I was playing this for a month! You start off in a taxi and work your way up to earning 8 different car brands and 20 different cars. After you beat someone you get there phone number. However, you have to earn the right to face them by chasing them until they say you can face them. Then you go up against them and their homeboys for their slip. Beat them 3 times in these races to kick them off the map because you're their superior. Yet, in a cell phone race, you're one on one with them and the road( that's technically one on one on one:). You win, you take their car. Take 2 guys( or one of the girls and a guy) off the map and the head honcho pops up. Slap him silly and were to city 2. Same thing except you beat the honcho and you face the boss. Beat her and you win. As for arcade, there's only a few minor changes( actually they're huge). This time you can unlock secret races to win secret cars that are only used in arcade mode. Each city also has red dots hidden in different areas ,and most are hard to get, so you get a really secret car. There is also the Capture the Flag where you run through check points and deliver the flag. That's not as fun as racing. Overall, Wicccckkkkeeeddddd!!!!!10/10
Story: Not necessary, yet you'd feel empty without it. You're a taxi driver who wants an exciting life. You end up finding a guy named Emilio Sanchez. He's a member of the Midnight Club. Once you beat him, let's you join. He gives you a cell phone and license. As you beat the New York homies, you come across the NY champ, Kareem Windcross. He takes you on. Whip him and he gives you airline tickets to the Midnight Club home city, London. Do the same thing and you end up facing your second boss race against Darren Thurrock. Defeat him and you're against the final boss, ????. I won't tell you who it is, but it's from Japan.
Each opponent has a different style car, race style, and personality. This is a great story for racing games.10/10
Control: Sharp and very responsive. They answer exact, sometimes in a bad way, like a boost when you slightly push L3 down. That rarely happens.10/10
Sound: Slightly above average. You won't remember the music ,but I never complained about it either. The effects are awesome. Let's say you run someone over. There's no gore, but you here a ridiculous line and they fly 15 feet in the air! All the characters have good voices and catchphrases as well. 8/10
Graphics: Nicely done. Sometimes there are slowdowns and jaggies, but that's very, very rare. Cars are nicely detailed. So are the lightposts an signs.9/10
Challenge: Not much to say, just medium. Easy at parts, hard at parts.7/10
Replay: Beating career will take a while, but you'll come back every now and then to unlock cars.8/10
Buy, Rent, Burn: Buy. an awesomely, freakishly, wicked game.
Well that's all folks. Thanks for reading!
