Vampire Night
Review by Hinkbert
"It's like House of the Dead, but with vampires"
Light gun games are great. I've liked them since Duck Hunt on the NES. And I was hoping Vampire Night would continue the grand tradition of light gun games, and thankfully it has.
Gameplay
Those familiar with House of the Dead will know what to do here. The game features multiple paths, upgrades, and it's necessary to to often target parts of the enemies. It features 7 stages (including the prologue), also included are extras like the training mode. Also 2 players are supported along with the original Guncon. So dust off the old gray girl and find a friend. This game is as difficult as House of the Dead, especially attempting to save individuals. To save someone a small ''heart'' must be shot off the individual, and the person cannot be hit anywhere else. If this does happen, the person will transform and attack you.
Graphics
The game looks great, there is some ''flickering'' and some pundits may complain about ''jaggies'', but I say who cares. The stages are designed well and the bosses are interesting.
Sound
What can I say, campy dialogue. It's like SEGA is trying to outdo their bad dialogue with each new light gun game they make. Music gets repetitive, but the actually sound effects are good.
Story
Uh, you are a vampire hunter. Basically your character and partner show up and start shooting things. A little girl shows up in the beginning and follows you around. You end up having to save her a lot, and it gets a little annoying. But well in these games the story does not really matter anyway. I guess it gets the point across though.
Guncon 2
Pros
Sleek, stylish
More buttons
D-pad on the back of the gun
Connects to USB port, so the controller slots are left open
Comes with extra cable so more guns can easily be hooked up
Cons
It's ORANGE, what were they thinking
The cable gets in the way a little
Feels a little cheaply made
Overall
This is a gun game, so by nature it's short. But it features everything that makes a great gun game. It may not be a classic, but it sure is fun while it lasts. The Guncon 2 coming with the game is also a bonus.
Buy/Rent
Like gun games? Then definitely buy, it's well worth it, especially with the Guncon 2. Don't know if you like gun games? Try renting for sure, you never know you may like it.
