Review by Mr. Windy City

"It's awesome, but the producers downgraded it a little."

NEW FEATURES/UPGRADES: 9/10
Ok, the producers added a couple of more things to this newest version of the WWF Smackdown ''trilogy''. First, you can now play as several guys from the WCW/ECW Alliance (which collapsed just recently to the superiority of the WWF), such as Rhyno, Raven, Test[icles], The Dudleys (who had defected to the Alliance), and HHH (who also betrayed the WWF). Also, you can now create your own taunts, better C-W(Created Wretlers), and ''improved'' stables in the games awesome Create Mode. I haven't played Smackdown! 2 in over a year, so I don't remember if there is a Story-Single Player Mode in that, but I'll just put this in this section; the Story Mode isn't all that much, but I consider it ''more advanced'' than it was [or would ever be] in Smackdown! 2. It is basically only a mode to get the 7 titles of the WWF - Hardcore, Tag Team, European, Heavyweight [I prefer to call it the ''WWF Undisputed Championship'' title], Women's, Light-Heavyweight, and Intercontinental titles. And, trust me, for the Tag Team title, it sorta sucks 'cuz the Computer controls your partner, and the Computer is usually VERY stupid, and when he gets the chance, he usually DOESN'T pin the opponent, but just parades around in the ring, just blankly staring at the opponent, who is ready to be ''match-finishing''-pinned, and when you decide to take matters into your own hands and go into the ring yourself, [if it isn't tornado-tag match] the referee rushes to force you out of the ring. If you get very vexed, just knock the hell out of the idiot, or even take your anger out on your idiot of a partner; it's like the saying ''The truth shall set you free'', and in this case, anger and vexation is the truth!!!

LOST FEATURES/DOWNGRADES: -1/10
Actually, I'd like to put something more of ''-7'' for the downgrades, but I dont' wanna overreact, so... First of all, the ''Create your own Pay-Per-View'' ability that we had enjoyed in the game's predecessor... is gone!!! That's right! Gone, vanquished by the producers and/or editors!!! There isn't even anymore Default Pay-Per-View no more!!! It's completely gone!!! [grabs a tissue, and cries in agony and disappointment] Also, Smackdown! 2 veterans, remember that game's feature of putting your title on the line in multi-player mode, and the guts it took to actually risk losing your title to your friend, brother, or cousin? Do you still have joyous memories about that? Then cry yourself to sleep! The producers/editors deliberately put us all Smackdown! fans into unrest and misery by erasing that feature from the game! This is why I added this section to my review, because I was too appalled to just skip over it and go on to the next section, and I express my disappointment and slight distrust in the producers by giving it the pathetic rating of ''-1/10''. Yes, even I think it's brutal, but what can I, a simple teenager, do about it? Blame the producers and editors of the game.

GRAPHICS: 10/10
Yes, this is ALMOST the ultimate God of Graphics of all Playstation 1/2 games I have played so far! It just has ONE flaw, which makes me sad to say that it is ''close, but no cigar'' close to ruling the Graphics of PS1/PS2. This flaw, which the creators overlooked, is the fact that in matches in the arena, the crownd is STILL flat!!! From the side, they look like crooked and broken up lines that seem to be moving very vigorously. This is the only thing that I personally should be looked at if there will ever be a new Smackdown! game released. They back away if you go over the ''rail'', and as they slide backwards away from you, you see flat security guards containing the crowds in that area [too bad you can't do Stone Cold Stunner on one of them and free the people ^_^] and also items. On one side, you can find a box. On the other, the crowds reveal Moppy!!! That's where the little mop-with-a-face-painted-on-it, which Perry Saturn was looking for so long, was!!! ^_^ Otherwise, the graphics are all right.

SOUND: 10/10
By my judgment, everything in the SOUND category is perfect in this game. I don't know about those other hard-line reviewers on this site would say about this, but the sound is completely flawless in Smackdown! 3.

GAMEPLAY: 8/10
This is where I get tougher. The dreaded GAMEPLAY arena of the game. It is ALMOST PERFECT, but needs some revising, according to me. I will explain as we go along throught the sections of GAMEPLAY. Read on to find out what I say about this.
Wrestlers: 9/10
Umm... OK. I give it a 9, because: a) There is a wide variety of choices for you to wrestle with. You can choose people like Vince McMahon, The Rock, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle (who'd want him???), and more. You should be equipped with a PS2 Memory Card when playing this game, so that you could create your own wrestlers with a mixed variety of moves. This is the reason this part got a 9, not an 8. b) There are several wrestlers missing - such as RVD, Paul Heyman (not a wrestler, but wouldn't you just love to kick his stupid ass???), and several others. You gotta create them. To do so, please consult the FAQs in this website or others on how to make them actually what they look like in the real world. Secret Hint: For RVD, IGNORE the FAQs' tip to make ''gray, puffy-looking balls'' on his head - it makes him look stupid and bogus. This lack of ''real wrestlers'' in WWF or in the former Alliance is the reason why I refused to give this section a 10/10. [Told you I was tough in this category!]
Story Mode: 8/10
Well, this part is near perfect, except that it's WAY TOO SHORT! 3 MATCHES! 4 IF YOU GET LUCKY! I AM APPALLED! This sucks big time! However, now let's look at the +'s of the Story Mode. Well, you need a PS2 Memory Card to save your victories/gains. You get to unlock 51 [or is it 52???] Secret Cards, which are just basically the ''bonuses'' and/or ''secrets'' of the whole game. Also, you get to challenge title-holders fort heir titles! I despise going after titles with wrestlers that were created by the game's creators, so I prefer going after them with your own modified wrestlers. The only reason why I gave this such a low grade was it's pathetic length!
Multi-Player Mode: 9/10
As I mentioned before, the game has no PPV anymore, and you can't put you titles on the line in a match with your bro/friend/and in my case, cousins. There is, however, a vast variety of matches you can pick, but some of them, in my opinion, are IDENTICAL or even completely suck! There is a new ''3 Stages of Hell'' type of competition in this Mode's ''Special'' section, so that saved the Mode from getting a rating of 8/10.
In-Game Announcer Stuff: 7/10
This part makes the entire game a little boring. Michael Cole and Tazz just constantly repeat the EXACT SAME THING during matches! It can drive you nuts!!! Even if Tazz is actually part of the match, and is getting beaten up by The Rock or somebody, he still finds a way to blab his life away with the same old boring crap! This brought the rating down 3 points!!! Sucks, don't it?

Final Word: 8/10
I admit it, okay? I got an average of 7.2 for this on my calculator, but I decided to have SOME degree of mercy on the game. It's great, but, as you can see, revising WILL be needed to make its possible heir a truly great game. It obviously TRULY got 7/10, not my rating-by-a-curve-8/10!!! I expected AT LEAST a 9/10!!! So, just buy it if you don't own it yet, but, my advice: BE PREPARED FOR SOME DEGREE OF BOREDOM/EXHAUSTION!
