Soul Reaver 2
Review by some_guy
"I'm glad I only rented it......."
Alright. I'm gonna give this game a 3 just because I'm a nice person and I feel sorry for the poor morons at Eidos and Crystal, because they've had their heads in their asses for a long time now. I'm gonna' go ahead what you'll find out on your own. This games blows. It blows hard. I have a list of complaints a mile long. But I do have a couple, wait, a single thing like about it.
Graphics: 3 out of 5
I've seen a WHOLE LOT of games with better graphics than this one. Examples: Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy X, even GUILTY GEAR X! The environments are probably the most attractive thing though. But even a monkey can be amused by pretty colors... And another thing! All the characters have had their gloomy end-of-the-world look taken away to be replaced with a CARTOONY LOOK?! Yes what I speak is the truth. Something about Vorador being a evil vampire tells me he shouldn't look like something out of Scooby-Doo.
Controls: 1 out of 5
Oh yeah here's another plus to the game(can you feel the sarcasm?). When you first play the controls seem the same as Soul Reaver 1. Until you fight something. Then you start to stumble around like a drunk on ice skates. The battle system sadly enough, relies on your ability to run in circles and swing at stuff. How difficult.... Oh and the vast array of moves! I think theres like 3? Yeah thats about right. Avast ye matey thar be more complaints ahead!
Sound: 4 out of 5
Ok I will give them credit(only a little) on the sound of the game. Hearing soldiers yelling commands and demons bad-mouthing you is pretty cool. The music however was.....ummm lacking. Nothing with energy at all. When I'm disemboweling someone I like to have some upbeat music playing! Oh and the pitter patter of Raziel's dainty claws, made me want to mute the thing. Pitter patter... yeah right. The guy sounds like a horse everywhere you go. Now you sit through one of your siblings tapping their fingers on the car window on a eight hour drive to wherever and you've basically just learned what its like to listen to his feet. Onward!!!!!
Gameplay: 1 out of 5
It gets a 1 'cause I was interested for a few minutes at least. Alright. Imagine this. Take an ok looking game. Add a pretty awesome story(the only good part). Now give your main character a sword he can never lose yet sucks the life out of him constantly and steals souls so he can't heal. Now take away bosses completely. YES COMPLETELY. And make it WAY too short. Oh and don't forget the crappy ending! Yet again, what I speak is true. The Soul Reaver has been enhanced(yay!!!) only to steal your energy if you use it too much(what?!?!?!). There isn't a single boss in the game. Not a single one. Not even a fraction of one. Not even a rabid midget with brass knuckles! NOTHIN'! Now at least in Soul Reaver 1 there were huge friggin bosses that made you wet yourself cause you didn't know how to kill em! Oh and theres sooooooooo many enemies!(again with the sarcasm) I think there are 3 types. They look different but they are the same. As the guy on those Cleareyes commercials says..... woooooooooow.
Overall: 3
Lets put 2 and 2 together now. OK. Graphics - Mediocre for next gen system. Sound - Annoying. Control - scarier than what Raziel's got under that cowl. Gameplay - there hasn't been a word invented to describe that much suck yet. In short, If you love the Legacy of Kain series I suggest you RENT this game. Don't go blow $50 on a game that you'll hate worse than aunt Edna's fruit cake. If you're curious about what I say about the game, I suggest you rent it. In fact just rent it. DO NOT BUT THIS GAME. If someone gives you $1,000 go ahead and buy it. But if you got $50 and thats all, save it for like, food or a box of bullets to shoot yourself with when the 3rd Soul Reaver comes out... If I've left anything out I'm sorry. But if you've never played this game before, chances are you wouldn't know...
