Extermination
Review by MaoTheGreat
"Biotech, Biotech, Biotech, Is Godzilla"
Whatever people may say, Extermination is a enteirtaining game. Most of the game is cool, but there's a lot of major problems that can cut the fun this game bring.
Graphics:
The graphics of extermination are average, but effective. Sometime, you'll get those fuzzy ''wall-hugging'' where the camera is messed up, but most of the time it won't happen. The camera can start positioning at embarassing place, but you can easily replace it by pressing L1.
Sound:
The sound is once again average. The voice acting is poor, like all japanese-to-english translation, and you even get to see the mouth that don't follow the dubbing that don't follow the subtitle. It's pretty hard to follow what's going on when english is not your first language and the subtitle don't even follow what's happening. The dialogue are also boring, and most of the time it's Dennis talking to himself about things that are evident.
Control:
The bad one. The controls are yes, better than most third-person action/adventure. The trouble is that at most of the time you need accurate movement, and the control just don't help you with it. The combat system is weak, and the auto-aiming system doesn't make you aim where you want to, and even lock to a place and return when you move your infra-red beam.
Story:
The story is boring as hell, that's it. It's plain dull and stupid. I hate love stories, I truely hate them.
Fighting:
This game is for veteran. The enemies are so hard you'll want to break your pad. The basic small grunts are unaimable and they jump on you from every side. Did I tell you that you must stand still to shoot, and you have to aim? Well that's it, you have time to shoot a bullet or a three bullet-burst before you get wounded. And I don't even want to talk about the bigger one. Maybe that's the whole goal, to run instead of fighting. But the control are so weak you can't always manage to get to a place without falling two or three times and getting killed. FRUSTRATING!
Coolness:
The characters didn't hook me up, but on the other side, the gun is one of the greatest idea ever. You get a normal assault rifle, but through the game you can pick up parts to modified your gun. So you can change your under-gun for a shotgun, a flame-thrower, a grenade-launcher or a missile-launcher, but also change the scope, the shooting mode, the grip etc... The knife is cool too, pretty classy.
Rent or buy:
I recommend renting. Fighting is hard, but the puzzles are pretty easy and the game is not very long.
