WinBack: Covert Operations
Review by PlaystationFanatic
"Great Game!! Short Of Expectations!! But Otherwise Pretty Decent!!"
Winback for the PS2 is one of those games you either like or you hate. Personally it's one of my favorite games on the PS2. You take control of Jean Luc Couger, a member of the special forces team SCAT. The Crying Lions(The Games Terrorist Group). Have taken over a high security complex and have taken over a very powerful weapon called the GULF Strategic Weapons System. Your job, along with the other members of your team is to take back the weapon and put a end to the enemy threat. In the game you'll come along some very cool bosses and allot of plot twists, and it only keeps getting deeper.
GRAPHICS:
I could tell you the graphics were great, but I would be lying to you. There pretty much average. But once again, being a fan of this type of game I was really deep into the game so I never really got to much into the graphics and the sound and everything. Some parts of the game are pretty nice, but in the long run the graphics are pretty bad, not really but, but like I said there average.
GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay in this game is pretty cool. It's almost the same as MGS2, but only different. The levels are pretty nice looking, for being one of the PS2's earlier releases. The controls at first seem a little bit hard to get a grasp on, but after a shot time you'll learn them. And when you get the controls down, you'll really enjoy this game.
SOUND:
This may be the worst aspect of the game, the voice acting has to be the worst I've ever seen in any game to date. But you'll soon get passed all that when you start getting into the game. I really noticed it in the opening FMV but after you start the game you'll see that you really won't pay much attention to it after all.
LASTING APPEAL:
This game takes around 10 hours to beat. It's relatively shot but you'll enjoy it most of the way through. The best part of the game in my opinion is its multi player mode. You play as any of the characters in the game and you can battle a friend or there is a bot mode where you can face a computer opponent. It's not the best multi player ever, but with a few friends it can be really entertaining. You have to play through the game to get most of the multi player characters unlocked.
My summary of this game is that, if your looking for a pretty good action type game, then look no further. Granted it's no Metal Gear or Syphon Filter. But Winback will impress most people with it's story, which compared to most games is a pretty good story.
