"Better than the first Gun Survivor!"

(Japanese version review)

I heard from almost everyone who had played this game that it was bad. Even with the warnings, I naturally bought a Japanese PS2 and tried the game anyway. And unlike what others have said, I have really enjoyed this game so far. Originally on the arcade, this game is actually a port.

Unlike Gun Survivor 1, this isn't a story game. It is more of a game just to shoot the hell out of anything you see, with key missions. Still, the gameplay in this game is really enjoyable, but it really is hard to get into this game because of the hard controls.

GRAPHICS: 9
The game looks great. The fully-rendered worlds are clear, and there aren't any jaggies like those that plague Metal Gear Solid 2 or Final Fantasy X. The colors are vibrant, and the polygon counts are also fairly high. The detail of the game is slightly above that of the Dreamcast version of CODE: Veronica Complete (since the DC version looks better). All in all, it looks like CODE: Veronica and that isn't a bad thing at all.

CONTROL: 6
The controls are hard to get used to. To turn left or right, the R1/L1 buttons must be pushed. The turning of the game is laggy and static, and the somewhat unresponsive controls make the control bad. I haven't played it with a GunCon, but the controller controls aren't too good.

GAMEPLAY: 8
I really like the idea of the gameplay. You shoot things and find keys to advance. True, the game is short, but this game is actually pretty fun. Shooting zombies is fun and relaxing, and really extends CODE: Veronica X's battle game into new heights.

STORY: 8
Basically, Gun Survivor 2 covers the first half of CODE: Veronica (the original version). Steve and Claire must get off the island, and work together to do it. Since this is the original, Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield are expectedly absent. It is still a good story, but I would find it interesting if they made Gun Survivor 2: BioHazard CODE: Veronica COMPLETE with the second half of the story. The way this game strays away from the CV game and focuses more on the fun gameplay is great.

SOUND: 7
The game sounds clear and basically reuses the sounds from CODE: Veronica X. Some of the music is different, but overall, the music is solid enough to earn a 7. I have heard these tracks before and without voice acting, I cannot understand a word Steve or Claire are saying.

REPLAY VALUE: 8
You can replay the game many times, and play in the various modes offered in the game. With the considerable difficulty of the game, you will be playing to see if you can beat this.

OVERALL: 8
Gun Survivor 2: BioHazard CODE: Veronica is a great and solid game. A step up from the first Gun Survivor, Capcom has impressed me for once. If you have a Japanese, European, Asian or Australian PS2, try to grab this game. Unfortunately, this game isn't coming to the US.
