Escape from Monkey Island
Review by muska121
"Ahoy mateys! Monkey Island series sails ahead!"
After playing the other Monkey Island series I can finally appreciate this game a lot more than before I beat the other games. This is one of the funniest games and should definably be worth a look.
Game Play: The game play is fairly simple just tell Guybrush (the main character) what to do i.e. pick up clock , talk to man, etc. And you simply move Guybrush buy using the d-pad or analog. The only complaint is that Guybrush only walks and he doesn’t run. It’s no biggie but sometimes you want to get from point A to point B a lot faster and especially when you’re exploring. This game at first may seem like an impossible adventure game (actually many adventure games are meant to be hard) but when you finally start thinking like Guybrush then you’ll realize that, that banana picker has some actual use than just picking bananas. This game at times is very frustrating such as when you are trying to backtrack everywhere on Meleè Island™. But the challenge is what makes this game great and the comedy mixed in is down right hilarious. This game play gets a 9 out of a possible 10
Storyline The storyline can only be described in one word: crazyness well it’s not even a word. But your Guybrush, mighty pirate, and your on an adventure of some sort and then a bunch of things happen and your back on that god-forsaken island: Monkey Island ™. Well your near impossible duty now is to escape from monkey island! Where you’ll meat familiar characters and not-so-familiar characters. The game is basically a bunch of mini-stories put together from saving Governor Marley to arresting Ozzie! The story isn’t like a serious Final Fantasy story but much more like the lovable Spongebob episodes. So it gets an 8 for it’s humor.
Graphics: The graphics in this game rule they are cartoony which fits the style of the game. The graphics when it goes into a cutscene are sort-of cel-shaded and it looks marvelous. It’s smooth textures, hardly skips, and walking around is like being in an animated show. So if you like cartoons you’ll love this game but if you’re the Medal of Honor kind of guy then this game may not be for you. Graphic wise it’s a 10 out of a 10.
Audio Holy platoons! I almost forgot to mention this but the sound is really neat. Everything you do Guybrush always responds and everyone you talk to talks. Like put in “Pick up Stan” he’ll say aloud “I don’t think he’ll like that”. The music is cool because most of it is pirate music or “jungle” music, which matches the environment. And all the sound effects are clear such as seagulls flapping by. So in essence this game’s audio gets a 9
Rent or Buy? If you played any Monkey Island then this game is for you get it! It’ll be fun! But if not you may want to rent it to see if you like it or not
Final Verdict The overall deserves an 8 it has minimum flaws but not everyone may like this game.
