"A fine piece of gaming art, right here..."

When Capcom decided to take the Resident Evil series over to the GameCube, PS2 fans were devastated. But, everyone knew that someone, sometime would create a game like Resident Evil to replace it. And, what do we get? A great survival horror game, probably nearly better than the RE Series itself.

Better than the RE Series? Yeah right...
Resident Evil was situated in one major location, and so is Extermination. But with Extermination, you have plenty of ammo, and only use one gun. You can receive updates to your weapon around the facility later on in the game, which makes this game exciting, yet puzzling. And like a normal RE game, Extermination features many puzzles, that will keep you scrating your head, as you run around, trying to figure out how the heck you do it. But do note, the puzzles are more easier.

Also, unlike many RE's, Extermination is based in daylight, not the evening. you also only get to explore ONE outside area, which is disappointing.

Anything familiar with the regular 'Resident Evil?'
Many things in Extermination are quite the same as Resident Evil. Extermination has Item Box like figures around the facility, which lets you dump off, or pick up, Batteries, Health Packs, Bullets etc. Also like Resident Evil, you need Batteries to save your progress, instead of Ink Ribbons. But, usually around Save Points, you will encounter a Battery Restore point. Saving usually uses around 3-5 Battery units, which is pretty expensive. Batteries also have to be used to activate elevators and electronic doors, which are hard to open.

Any zombies? Same story line?
Obviously, Extermination has zombies, and monster like figures. What survival horror doesn't? And, like the T-Virus, you can get infected. But instead, this time it can cause death - just like 'Poison'. Getting infected causes Health to slowly be taken away, leaving you to get dizzy vision, and blurry vision also. But, this can be restored by entering into a hospital like place, and using a special item to restore your Health, and Status effect.

Are the graphics good?
The graphics are great for the PS2. But, of course the GameCube's version of Resident Evil's graphics are better. The GameCube can handle better graphics, so the graphics for the PS2 are great. It has very good blurring effects, and it has a cool shining effect to everything. The FMV's look awesome. Great modeling, and almost lifelike movement. But, sometimes the graphics get very blocky.

Well, why the heck should I buy this game?
I said the graphics in Extermination are good. But they are nothing to drool over. And, have you ever heard of 'Graphics don't make a game'. Its the Gameplay, Story, Sound effects, etc. And which all of the above are excellent. So, get out and get it now.

Okay. Rent or Buy?
If you are a Resident Evil fan, you should go and buy Extermination right now. If you're not to sure, I suggest you really should try before you buy. If you are a tad bit weak when it comes to blood and gore, I suggest you don't buy or rent - it isn't for the weak hearted. But, either way I suggest you rent before you buy.
