James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
Review by Squinky45
"Worth Playing, in my eyes."
A decent shooter for PS2. The graphics are sharp, the story is good, and it IS James Bond after all. Hardcore 007 fans will appreciate the witticisms in this game, as they, in my eyes, are as good as some of Bond's movie ones. Now, onto the review.
Graphics- 7
The graphics are decent. From gargantuan mountains in Switzerland to an oil rig on the South China Sea, the graphics are fairly good. The guns are well-animated, and the characters look worthy of a PS2 game. Sure, they could've pushed the PS2 harder, but this is fine if you're not picky about graphics.
Gameplay- 9
A very strong point. When the lead really flies, your vision is disrupted realisticly and this creates a sense of panic when you've got no place to go and are surrounded by itchy-fingered thugs. The guns vary in accuracy, power, speed, and clip size, and of course appearance. My biggest beef is that it takes a second to switch from gadget to gun, but that's a small problem. When you take highly methodical action, such as activating a Harrier or blowing up a steel barrel to kill enemies, you'll get a snippet of the 007 theme, a 007 icon briefly in the corner, and be awarded bonus points. Very unique and innovative. The only problem was that some of these ''Bond Moves'' are necessary, which took the methodicality out of those ones. Oh well. No biggie.
Story- 8
The rate at which the story unfolds wasn't too good, but the story itself is another story. I greatly value story, and this game's story was pretty good. Not as good as, oh say Metal Gear Solid 2, but it was quite good, one of the best I've ever seen in an FPS.
Music/Sound- 7/9
The music was average, but it hit a few high spots. I've always been a fan of the 007 theme. I would've appreciated more music. Sound was great, though. When you pick up body armor, you hear Bond zipping it up. When you use the grappling hook-type gadget you get a nice sound.
Replayability- 8/10
It won't take long to beat the game, but it's fun to compete for level scores and try to win all the gold and platinum awards. Also, if you're the type who likes completeness, you can try to get all the ''Bond Moves''.
There are also multiple difficulties.
In conclusion...
This game is well worth a rental, and if you're a fan of FPS games or 007, you might consider buying this. I would recommend a rental though, unless you have to option to return it if you don't like it.
