Legaia 2: Duel Saga
Review by Briar37
"A game that really DOES live up to the hype!!"
Ok, I was strolling down my local Gamestop aisles when I came up to the Playstation section. I had $50 bucks and it was burning a hole in my pocket. I looked and looked but I couldn't find anything that would put the fire out until I came up to Legend of Legaia. I was excited for I had heard much about this game. I took it up to the cashier and to my shock they had NONE in stock! I was heartbroken. The game that I had longed for was gone....until.. the cashier said ''Hey, if you wanted that game so bad maybe you'll find this game interesting. It is the sequel.'' He pulled out a long, slender case with the title Legaia 2: Dual Saga. I decided to give the game a try because the predecessor was so great maybe this one would give me a drop of pleasure. I raced home and popped the game in and to my excitement it turned on and then I was in for a ride of my Playstation 2 life and mine.....
Graphics-8/10: This game amazed me at how it adds so much detail. Even during battles or cut scenes the movement is fluid and it doesn't stick or anything. It moves in a smooth and enjoyable pace. The game at times reminds me more of an Anime than anything else really. The wilderness looks almost real and one thing that amazes me is the fact that animals roam around in towns and cities. Also, characters might be sweeping or dusting or just wiping something off and it really makes you think that they are getting they jobs done.
Story-10/10: This is a major part of all RPGs and this game doesn't let us down. It starts out with our main character Lang who is joining a group that protects the town. The town is also home to a stone that floats in the air that the town relies on for its survival. The stone gets stolen and our rookie hero leaves on a quest to recover the stone. The story is very interesting and it keeps you guessing. At times though, the game has slowdown and it becomes a little dry.
Battle System-9/10: This is one of the things that makes the game so interesting and enjoyable and what also I think really ties the game to its original. You have moves that you punch in that either can just be regular attacks or can be moves called Arts. Arts come in different categories such as Hyper moves or Super moves. Some of the moves raise AP while some use AP. The AP tells you if you are able to use the move or not. You can still use the moves but they will not have the extra power the moves should have. The system though works just like any other RPGs do. You fight battles to gain experience and you gain experience to level up. There is not really any magic except for the things called Origins that use MP that can do a variety of things such as heal or maybe increase defense.
Challenge-10/10: This game will really give you a challenge I will tell you. It at times will be one of the easiest games while at other times is a son-of-a-donkey.
Sound-7/10: This is one reason the game does not get a full 10/10. The game's sound and voice acting are not the best nor are at the spot RPGs should be at. The music can be quite repetitive and there is hardly ever any talking from the characters besides during battle.
Replay Value-9/10: You still have to get THROUGH the game! This game is incredibly long and it had many mini-games and reason to continue playing it even after you beat it!
Final Thought: I still am glad I purchased this game. I probably will play this game again but I haven't decided just yet. Hopefully my review will make you go out and buy the game and bless your collection with this wonderful game.
