Burnout 2: Point of Impact
Review by Gaseous Snake
"An amazing game that should feature in your gaming collection."
Coming off the back of the highly acclaimed Burnout, Acclaim bring you this masteriece. Burnout 2: Point of Impact overtakes many in its graphical expertise and gameplay. I spent £40 on this game. Many magazines were giving it 10/10 or 91%. I decided to take a chance. I spent my money well and I strongly advise you spent yours well too.
Gameplay: 10/10
I have never owned a game that has such compelling gameplay as B2:POI. The game offers a variety of modes including Championship (Decent), Single or Multi-Player Racing (Multiplayer is excellent), Pursuit, Offensive Driving and Crash for Cash. The Crash for Cash is where you charge into busy interstates to try and cause as much damage as possible. This is incredible fun with two players competing against each other.
Graphics: 10/10
On the front of the box, it quotes PSM2 saying ''Graphically, you have to see it to believe it.'' I totally agree with this statement. The graphics are amazing and flow at an astonishing 60 frames a minute without any form of slowdown.
Sound: 8/10
I haven't really paid much attention to the sound as I am too gripped by the gameplay. I have however noticed that the tracks fit well with the gameplay and the change of track when you Burnout is used to excellent effect.
Controls: 9/10
Most of the controls are fine, the only point I would make is that using the Square Button to try and brake can be awkward when trying to use the X Button as well. This is, however, only a minor niggle that takes nothing away from the game.
Multiplayer: 10/10
This game is great to bring to any form of meeting with a friend. Load it up and try your hand against each other in Crash or Racing. The multiplayer fun on this game is retty much endless as no races are ever the same.
Replay Value: 10/10
From what I have experienced so far, this game appears to have endless replay value. I haven't stopped playing it since I got it. As I have said before, no two races are the same and attempted to better your own Time Attack records and Crash Scores will prove a daunting task for even seasoned veterans of the Burnout series.
Overall: 10/10
In most cases, I reserve 10/10 for the créme of the créme. This game is that. Its balanced mixture of fine gameplay, crisp graphics, easy controls and endless replay value seal an essential purchase for even those only vaguely interested in Racing Games.
Buy/Rent: Buy
Do you have £40? That is the only question you need to answer if you are thinking of getting this game. Do you have the money. If you do, waste no time in heading down to your local store to buy this.
This ranks alongside GT3 as one of the best games of the Racing Genre. This is an essential purchase and I honestly believe that even if you despise racing games, this game will make you have a change of heart.
