Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2
Review by Jobu Dudley
"Not Dave Mirra 1.5, but sure Close"
Soundtrack-
With songs from groups like Ice-T, Suicidal Tendencies, Iggy Pop, and a great many of others, it has way to much rap, and not enough heavy metal/punk/classic rock. Nothing against rap, it's just there is only around 3 or 4 songs that are any where near classic rock.
1 Classic
1 Pop Rock
2 Punk
1 Rap N' Roll
Sound-
The chainwheel makes an awesome noise. It's closer to any other fake chainwheel I've heard. Of course the skid doesn't sound as good as the Dave Mirra games, but it's good as well. The bike's rattle when you fall, which I think is really really cool. Dave Mirra's bike's sounded like they were so tight, you couldn't even turn the bars.
Graphics-
I've never seen an extreme sports game with this good of graphics. Nate Wessel's frame actually has the Etnies folded sticker on it. You can read Mat's shirt, on the back, which says ''Rise Above''. The plywood jumps actually show the different boards, and the interactive people are very well done also.
Gameplay-
This is where the game takes away the points, giving it a B, instead of an A+. The levels get really repetitive after around 3 or 4 Road Trips. Now the city levels are always fun, but the dark levels, and the father in-game levels get really annoying. They having that sticks out. The riding is awesome though. The game has Flatland, a new trick system, a new trick-tweaking system, and a lot of cool transfers. The Picture Taker is the neatest thing though. It takes up most of you 8mb. Card, but it's worth it.
Realism-
The game is exceptionally real and awesome, up to the places in Mat Hoffman's park, but Mat Hoffman does not have breaks! Make him put his foot in the tire. Same guys to anyone else. It's also stupid tp put characters in the game who always wear helmets without helmets. And then they give characters who never wear helmets helmets. DOH! This game is really fun though.
Multiplayer-
If Tony Hawk 3 had Internet Play, then Mat Hoffman 2 should. Heck, Tony Hawk 4 came out around when this game came out, give it frickin' multiplayer matches. The 2 Player mini-games don't match up to DMFBMX, but it's close enough. The Half-Pipe Hell is the funnest.
OVERALL it's an excellent BMX game. The levels are ok, the people look super good, the bikes have excellent details, and of course, there's no multiplayer. It's cool though. This is an excellent game.
