"A fun MMORPG for the PS2"

Before writing this review I must say that I have never played any the PC version of everquest, therefore I am new to the series. When I picked this game up I figured I would have to learn some new stuff and take some time to get used to this game. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to get the hang of this game in about a half an hour.

Gameplay:8/10

The best part of the game is the gameplay. You start of by creating a character by choosing from may races and classes. There are many choices, you can be anything from an elven ranger to a troll warrior. After creating a character you are taken the your home town, which vary's for each race and class. Here you perform quests, kill monsters, gain levels, party with other people, and travel. You can pretty much do what you want when you want, and go where you please. Grouping and traveling with other people is makes it a lot more fun and easier, especially for those long trips to towns that are very far away. Most classes compliment each other quite well and it won't be too difficult to find a group. The only downside for some people may be the repetitiveness.

Graphics:6/10

Not the best the playstation 2 is capable of, but not as bad as people say. The fact that so many characters and monsters can be on screen at the same time, I think the graphics aren't that bad. There are some rough edges, and some characters and NPC's look the same, but besides that the graphics are above average.

Sound:3/10

There isn't much when it comes to sound. All the spells and abilities have the same sound, and the whooshing sound of you and party members swinging there weapons gets repetitive. The game also lacks any sort of music or soundtrack.

Controls:7/10

I find the controls to be easy to get used to and somewhat simple. After playing the game for half an hour to an hour you will probably have the controls down and have no problems.

Replayability:8/10

With so many races and classes to choose from, and fresh new people everytime you log on you can play this game for a long time. Also the fact that new areas to explore and new gameplay features will be unlocked in the future will keep this game going for a while.

For a first attempt at a online rpg for the playstation, this a good first attempt, and is a solid, fun gaming experience.
