Extermination
Review by TheGamer87
"Kind of fun for awhile, but then it gets boring."
I bought this game back in the summer for pretty cheap, and it's basically a mix of Syphon Filter and Resident Evil. Sounds fun? sure it does, unfortunately, there's still some flaws. Personally, I think this game could have been a blockbuster hit if some more work was put into the game play. It's not a bad game though, here's my review.
PLOT
-In this game, the plot is about a genetic experiment that goes wrong and infests a military base in Antarctica, and all kinds of mutated creatures get spawned and start killing everyone. They've taken over, and for some reason, you decide to go in and check it out. Pretty soon, you run in to some problems, and now your mission is to escape from the base. The plot is actually pretty decent.
PLOT SCORE:7/10
GRAPHICS
-Up to Playstation 2 standards, the graphics are pretty good, and there really isn't anything to complain about here. There is nothing wrong with the graphics. They get the job done well.
GRAPHICS SCORE:9/10
AUDIO
-The audio is pretty cool. Creepy music is there at parts to keep you on the edge of your seat. The sound effects consist mainly of gunshots, slimy, squishy noises, and footsteps. The voice acting could be a little better, but that's about it.
AUDIO SCORE:8/10
GAME PLAY
-Unfortunately, there isn't all that much that's innovative or new to the game play, and that is where this game lacks. It's one of those games that is kind of fun to play for a little while, but gets boring pretty fast. While the game can get boring, the controls are pretty decent, so there is a plus. I don't know if it's just me, but this game seems to have a lot missing from it, and it just seems like an unfinished version was released. Walk around all paranoid, shoot little slugs and other various mutations, and watch out for other hazards as well. There are some puzzle solving elements, but they mainly consist of doing something like moving a box, climbing through a vent, or finding a way to open a door. The game play formula doesn't seem like a bad idea at all, does it? well unfortunately, we've seen these things executed better in Resident Evil, and Syphon Filter, so the game needs some work in this area.
GAME PLAY SCORE:6/10
CHALLENGE
-The challenge is there. This game happens to be a moderate challenge. It's not too easy, not impossible either. But it is going to annoy you for awhile, unless you're really good at survival horror games.
CHALLENGE:7/10
REPLAY
-There aren't any secrets or bonuses that I know of, and there isn't much reason to play through this again, so I give a low score here.
REPLAY SCORE:2/10
RENT OR BUY?
-If you're interested in playing this, just rent it. 5-7 days should be enough to beat the game, and that way, you'll have spent $6 instead of $15-$25 like I did. Save your money instead.
