High Heat Major League Baseball 2004
Review by Agent47
"Baseball done right"
I am a baseball fanatic, I have been since I can remember, that is why I am kicking myself for not switching to the High Heat series sooner. High Heat provides the most accurate baseball simulation I have ever experienced, and certainly does not disappoint. This game is a must for any true baseball fan. Now, on to the review.
Gameplay score:10
The gameplay is unsurpassed. I was amazed at how well 3D0 captured the feel of baseball. It was refreshing to play a smart opponent for once.
Batting/Pitching interface.
I had become used to the cursor system that is used in nearly all of the next-gen baseball titles of the last few years, and I was unsure of how well the no-cursor system would perform. I happy to say that the batting/pitcher interface in HH'04 really adds to the overall realistic feeling. Contrary to what some reviews say, you do pick your location for pitches and swinging. Your batting success is rewarded for timing and pitch selection. The lack of cursor and reliance on timing really gives the strike zone a 3D feel unlike any I have experienced before.
Fielding.
Fielding in HH'04 is a breeze. The controls are fluid and responsive. There is not a bad thing I can say about them.
Graphics score:9
Some people will try to tell you that the graphics are not up to par in HH'04, I am here to say that they are wrong. The graphics are great and the player models look very nice. However, where HH'04 really shines is the animations. The animations are a sight to see. The double plays, the relay throws, the running catch, all of the animations look great.
Sound score:9
The sound is very good. 3DO captured the sounds you would here at a typical game and recreated them very nicely. The commentary is very good as well. The only time I dislike the commentary is when they scream ''HOMERUN!'' when my pitcher gives up a crucial bomb to the opposing team.
Replay score:10
Prepare to lose sleep over this game, and your homework will suffer. I have dreams about playing HH'04. I will be playing this game past October.
Overall score:9
Now, you may wonder why I didn't rate HH'04 a ten, well here is why. Although it is one of the best and most entertaining game I have ever played, there are a few little bugs that can make you a little mad. There is a little slowdown around the plate, but not always, and not that bad. The sound sometimes goes a little wacky, but not for long. Trust me when I say that it will not be enough to make you not enjoy this game. If you are a baseball fan, what are you waiting for? You could be playing right now, so quit reading this and go out and buy it! You will not be disappointed.
