ATV Quad Power Racing 2
Review by Jaxijin
"A simple racing game littered in flaws"
After playing the awesome ATV Offroad Fury 2, I became curious that Acclaim was releasing a new ATV game, so since ATV Offroad Fury 2 rocked, I decided to try ATV Quad Power Racing 2 and man oh man, was I dissapointed in SOOO many ways. ATV Quad Power Racing 2 had LOTS of potential, really, it did. But it ended up getting filled with flaws. Read on the discover my gripes with this otherwise okay game:
-VISUALS: First of all, ATV Quad Power Racing 2's visuals are, well, awful. The environments may be big, but lacking as they are filled with ugly, bland textures, the ATVs and riders themselves look relatively ugly. The whole thing is a graphical mess. The only good thing, however, is that the animations are very fluid and probably the only advantage to bad graphics is no pop-up (due to the lack of detail). But overall, there are some pretty environments, with although not much, there is some detail in them.
-SOUND: Sadly, for a supposedly cool ATV game, ATV Quad Power Racing 2 lacks lots of music. There isn't much, just regular sound effects but they are solid enough. Either way, you cannot really complain.
-GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is not very tight either, which would have made up for the ugly graphics and technical flaws, but it does not. As you play, you select riders and race different locations with ATVs. As you continue, you will unlock new stuff.
The racing is very stiff. The ATV mechanics and tough to meneuever. I had trouble just racing in a slightly straight line. The developers could have loosened the movement mechanics, and I was hoping for a solid trick system to make up for these flaws. Dissapointment, again! Tricks are hard to execute, and there are too few bumps in many of the tracks, making them practically useless to excecute (well, points are nice to earn). The only thing that ATV Quad Power Racing 2 has to make up for it is the ability to kick enemies off their ATVs. That always provides a nice thrill!
-OVERALL: For those wanting a cool ATV simulation, you will probably end up getting dissapointed in this one. Look for ATV Offroad Fury 2 if you want a better racing experience.
-SCORECHART:
-Best Feature: Ability to kick other riders
-Worst Feature: Shallow and stiff gameplay
-Try Instead: ATV Offroad Fury 2
-VISUALS:5/10 -ORIGINALITY:6/10
-SOUND:6/10 -REPLAY:7/10
-CONTROLS:7/10 -OVERALL:6/10
-The Verdict: RUN AWAY from this one.
