Commandos 2: Men of Courage
Review by AceFrehley03
"Quite possibly the hardest (and most addicting) game ever..."
GAMEPLAY -
This is where the game really comes out. I'm not the biggest fan of top-down, RTS type games, but this game has got me and won't let me go. There is a crapload of commands to do and memorize, and there is almost nothing that your commando CAN'T do. This game is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and is NOT something that you can breeze right through... you will get frustrated at it, you will throw your controller, you will get blisters on your thumbs. But you will also get good. All in all, the gameplay in this is awesome.
CONTROLS -
Both good and bad, the control aspect of this game really depends on the player. There are a ka-freakin-jillion commands to learn, and you'll probably use all of them some point in time, but when you're trying to do one thing and something happens (such as you get shot at) then you will probably do the wrong command and make your commando run to the nearest 7/11, get a big gulp slurpee, chug it, get some doritos, and run back to where he was. While you can't really do that, there are so many controls that you might as well be able to. The camera controls are simple enough, the right analog stick moves it around and when you hold down R2, you can turn it in increments of 90 degrees. The controls are fine for how this game is.
GRAPHICS -
Actually, the graphics are pretty good seeing as how the camera is about 50 feet away from everything. You can see a considerable amount of detail if you look close enough, and when you're in a rush, they are definately pleasing to the eyes. I had no problem with the graphics in this game.
SOUNDS -
The sounds in this game are pretty good. The guns sound realistic, so do the voices. The occasional jokes and one-liners from your commandos are funny and all, but once you hear the same thing a hundred times from the same person in the course of 5 minutes, it gets old. Oh well, you can't win them all. Not a problem with the sound I've heard, EXCEPT with the music... mine skips occasionally, even though my disc is brand new. Doesn't bug me that much, I'm too involved with the game to care.
REPLAYABILITY -
In a lot of games that are out today, you can play them 5 times through and eventually understand how to do everything. This game is no different, BUT, because it is so difficult and there are so many commands, you can play this game through a hundred times without having to do something the same as last time. It will also take some deal of time to completely, as well.
BUY OR RENT -
Buy. That's all there is to do it. You won't have enough time to understand what this game is really about if you rent it.
