Amplitude
Review by orus
"Amplitude an interesting redo of Frequency"
When I first thought of the idea of having another game to fit in my collection of music games, I was ecstatic, Frequency really was a good game and really told people that you too can be a freq, or just make music like the rest of the world. Other games such as Maestro were interesting but completely took the control out your hand, so I was afraid of the control issues.
Amplitude, when I first plugged it in, I was astounded by the visuals and sound(it was amazing). The new list of songs by people I know including Weezer, Pink and Slipknot. It was nice to see some familiar names going into a game like this. Frequency had some good titles but a lot of them were over my head.
Amplitude has some nice modes with its overly expansive single player mode as well as its mulitplayer and online capabilities. That will give manyh people what they were looking for, being able to share their knowledge as well as test their abilites as music freqs.
Amplitude has some downsides that I haven't quite resolved yet. The first is the new look. The tube in frequency was nice being able to spin around the tube fast and pull off combo's as fast as you can hit the left and right buttons on your d-pad. Unlike frequency Ampplitude gives a flat out view, making it difficult on harder settings to pull off magnificent combos. Having to fly across eight lanes of traffic just to get your 8x multiplier.
Another disappointment to the game is that the remix mode doesn't allow you remix the vocal track I was very disappointed with that. In frequency all of the tracks allowed you to fiddle with the vocals thats what made the remix so much find and made the game have so much replay value.
The new collector, or trapper that is used to get the notes has an interesting point of view. View is a little wierd and kind of hard to get used to. Many people who have played the last game may find it a bit difficult getting used to the new ''collector''.
Overall the game is well done, with a nice selection songs and a nice multiplayer aspect. Being able to go online and share music and play against other people is nice addition to a game like this. Not having to leave the house game, controller and memory card in hand wishing there was an easier way. And Amplitude give the people what they were asking a harder and more verstile game.
